Reflections for Sergeant Richard Scott Findley

"A Part of America Died"
Somebody killed a policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
will be buried with him at his side.

While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend many long, lonely nights.

The beat that he walked was a battle field too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.

Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.

Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all,
and a part of America died.
My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends, when i heard my heart just sank, just to know that my father does the same thing that he did everyday just makes you wonder. I never met him but my father said he was a good man and he will always be rememberd by me and my family. You will never be forgotten but always remembered as a Hero, husband and father. To the Wife, Daughters, Family, and Friends of Officer Findley, I send my sincerest and heartfelt apologies.

My husband, a fellow office in Laurel, knew Officer Findley. He told me they often shot the breeze while waiting between court sessions and has nothing but the nicest, waremest things to say about him.

As I drove into work at the Camden Yards building this morning, I saw the flag flying at half-mast in honor of him. I will keep your husband, father, son, and friend in my prayers always.

I work at the library next door to the police station and this morning I was able to see first hand all the love and respect for this officer. It was amazing to see all the fellow law enforcement officals from all over the state and beyond....Harford County, Ocean City, Baltimore County, Montgomery County, and NJ just to name a few. I know there were alot more. To see this homage first hand really touched me. God bless Mrs. Findley and the children and God Bless EVERY law enforcement officer out there.

We will never forget the times whne you and your sister came down to our house in So. MD. Your sister was playing softball with us and you were making us laugh. We remember how we laughed so hard that our sides and faces would hurt. I am glad that you got your dream of being in the Fire Dept., and a member of the Police Dept. Thanks for serving!! And thanks for being you!! You will always be in our memories. God Bless you and your family.

Hi Richard: My name is Nan and I am a friend of your sister. My manager, Nicholas, and I went to pay our respects to you, your mother, and family today. I gave your mom and sister big hugs because I know how difficult it is and how they must miss you dearly. Even though, I never got to meet with you, I just want to tell you and all your fellow police officers, THANKS FOR PUTTING YOUR LIVES ON THE LINE FOR US EVERYDAY. May you rest in peace, and may God protect your children and wife, as well as your family for you. Also, lots and lots of people were there for you today, and just know that you will always be in our hearts. You are a hero, and this is a sad and great loss to all of us. Sincerely,

You paid the ultimate sacrifice and you will never be forgotten by your comrades, your family or your friends. Almost 10 years ago we entered the Academy and became Session 92; we had no idea what we were in for. Over the years we (the class) grew apart and today our class motto probably holds the most weight than it ever did....."Strength through unity". My prayers are with your family and our entire Police family.

I was working that night, in a neighboring county, when our Sgt told us of this heart breaking news.My deepest sympathy and prayers immediately went out to your family, friends, and entire department. As soon as I saw your picture, and heard your name, I realized I knew you from several years ago, actually meeting you,and your wife Kelly. We had some mutual friends at that time, and I recall some fun times on the Putt Putt Golf course, and a couple of other times too.You knew me as Sally, not Sara as I go by now. I had lost touch with those friends of yours since that time, and also started this job, working for the Howard County Police Department. But I remember your excitement of becoming an officer, and getting married ,and the birth of your daughter, & now to read you have another daughter also. I pray for God to comfort Kelly, your daughters, and your family & friends.I know that Angels carried you high into the Heavens above, where you are in the loving arms of God. You will not be forgotten and always honored. You gave the ultimate sacrifice in serving and protecting the citizens. A Hero does not be come a Hero by their death, but by how they lived their life.May you rest in Peace, and God Bless !!
