To the Findley family - I'm so sorry for your loss. You are not alone in your grief. I also lost my husband who was a police officer and i have 2 small daughters. Just take one day at a time and your healing process will begin. You will never get over this but you CAN live with it. It will be VERY HARD but stay strong for the girls! they need you now more than ever.

Brother I know you were looking down smiling yesterday as we laid you to rest and probably laughing at all 300 plus police cars trying their best to avoid departmentals. Although some couldnt!. It was a beautiful ceremony. I did not know you, but I was honored to be a part of the events.

It is sad to see one of your own brother have fallen in the line of duty. It is sad to see one that wears blue as a shield to protect not only the citizens but themselves. However, Saint Peter had other plans. And those plans was for our borther to join him and others. We will miss him and we will never forget you.

Sgt. Richard Findley

A Comrade of Yesterday - A Saint of God Today

Dear God,

We come here today to remember our dear brother Richard...who for reasons we do not understand was suddenly taken from us.

We give thanks and praise to YOU for the life of Richard and for the privilege of knowing and remembering him.

Richard walked and labored with us for the cause of humanity. Now our dear brother has entered into the "Joy of the Lord," a Comrade of Yesterday - a Saint of God today.

Although we look upward to that "Glorious Hope" and Glad Reunion when our work on this earth is done...

Today, we pray together asking you to send guardian angles to watch over us and all other Police Officers around this great nation.

Protect us, walk beside us, and watch over us keeping us safe.

When danger is near, give us courage and strength. Guide our paths, so that we may return home to our families and loved ones unharmed.

In Jesus Name, Amem

It seems like every time our hearts start to feel a little lighter and we begin to come to terms and accept what happened to our own Scott Wheeler, something like this happens and brings back the raw pain and sorrow that we felt during our tragedy last June. You are another hero cut down in the line of duty way too soon. God Bless you and your family. Please say hey to Scott.

There is a reason and a season for everything. God just help us understand.....

Thanks for your service.

This afternoon my daugther and I, along with many other residents stood on the Whitfield Chapel Road overpass to Route 50 to watch your motorcade and send our farewell to you. It was awesome to see how much you are loved and how grateful we are of your service to our County and State. We did not know you personally, but grieve along with your family, colleagues, and friends.

Often I visit the Starbucks on Route 1 where a memorial sticker for Steve Gaughan hangs in the window. I learned from the paper that the two of you were colleagues and friends. May God bless you, your wife and daughters and watch over you as you watch over us. We thank you infinitely for your service to Prince George's County!
