Patrolman Willie Stephenson drowned during a rescue attempt at Orchard Beach while off duty.

He observed a female drowning and dove into the water from his boat. Patrolman Stephenson was able to save the drowning woman by handing her to another off duty officer, but went under water and did not resurface. His body was located several hours later.

Patrolman Stephenson was survived by his expectant wife and son. His daughter was born 23 days after his death.

I was born 5/15/1963 and had 3 years with my father. My sister was born 7/26/1966. 23 days after my fathers passing. So my father and sister never had a chance to meet.
Daddy YOU will never be forgotten. Love you then and Love you now. By the way Daddy your grandson is also Will Stephenson in memory of you. He is now 14years old
