I was 10 years old when Officer Ross passed away. He was my first cousin. My father was from Owls Head Maine where officer Ross lived. We went to Maine for vacation every year from New York. The night the accident happened Franks mother came to our house to tell my father what had happened. I was upstairs in bed but heard my aunt Evelyn, Frank's mother, tell my parents what happened. I was shocked and scared. My cousin Paul, Frank's brother, replaced him in the Sheriffs department for a number of years. In 1977 I became a police officer in the Nassau County New York Police Department. I was there for 35 years and often thought about my cousin and the sacrifice he made.
