Reflections for Sergeant James Timothy Chapin

May God Bless Sergeant James Chapin. May his family, friends and coworkers also be blessed and may God help them through this very difficult and trying time. I pray that they all can find some peace now or eventually. As a surviving wife of Deputy Allen Sharra from the Kings County Sheriff's Dept in CA. E.O.W. 12-12-99 I still have all the emotional problems from time to time throughout the year and I know how important it is to have someone to talk to no matter what it is. Please if anyone needs to ask me questions or just to have someone to talk to at anytime about anything even if it just seems like it is something simple, but I am here and willing to help in any way possible. My email: [email protected] and my phone number is: 916-897-9916.
With love,
Gina Sharra (Surviving wife of Deputy Allen Sharra)

Tim,

I don't even know how to process what has happened. I just can't believe it is real. It's not supposed to happen period and it sure as hell is not supposed to happen the day you celebrate 27 years of making it through the trenches day in and day out. I want to thank you for all those morning you were just passing through Echo Team and stopped to check on me at a traffic stop or even a call. It was always good to see your calm presence and that sly grin. I am thanking you because you didn't have to. You could have just diverted just kept driving to the service center or back to Brainerd, but there were times I took notice on just how far off the path you took just to back us up, to check on us, to be there if something did happen. Why? because you loved us and you were a true cop and thats what true cops do. All the other paperwork and stuff can wait your brother in need cannot. As the minutes of your death have turned to hours we sit and reflect on what happened and how every single one of us wishes we could have been there for you in that moment. We cast out any and all of our fears to come and save you and would have done so in an instance. You were an amazing supervisor to your men and they loved working for you. You were their friend and brother and not just viewed as their supervisor. They trusted you, they respected you and they will miss you all the day of their career. It could have been easier for you to keep your seat drinking your coffee, going over paperwork and let your troops handle. You could have said "I am set to retire as you looked at the count down clock on your phone" and hoped for the best. You could have said "well, I am supposed to go home early today so I can celebrate with my wife and take my son bowling" but you didn't. You put all of that aside and did what not only a leader should do, but what a cop does regardless of rank...you responded. You put it all on the line for your men and for us all. It was last day of work...you just didn't know it. I love you....goodbye

My thoughts are with you and all of your loved ones and close friends during this very trying time. I have no magical words to help those who are now grieving your loss, except to never let your memory die and all they can do is take one day at a time. I salute you for your bravery as most people don't understand that when the crap hits the fan, they run one way and police officer run towards the problem. You are a true hero and heroes never die. Watch over all of your loved ones.
