The Corrections Officer faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now Corrections Officer,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek,
To my church have you been true?"

The Corrections Officer squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord I guess I ain't,
cause those of us who carry badges,
can't always be a saint."

"I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my work was rough.
sometimes I've been violent,
Because inside those walls is awful tough!"

"But I've never took a penny,
that wasn't mine to keep,
I've worked alot of overtime,
when the bills just got too steep."

"And I've never passed a cry for help,
though at times I shook with fear,
and sometimes God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears."

"I know I don't deserve a place,
among these people here,
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears."

"If you've a place for me Lord,
It needn't be so grand,
I've never expected or had to much,
But if you don't I will understand."

There was silence all around the throne,
where Saints often trod,
Where the Corrections Officer waited quietly,
for the Judgement of his God.

"Step forward now Corrections Officer,
You've borne your burdens well,
Come walk a while on Heaven's street,
you've done your time in Hell."

My prayers are with Officer Rivera's family. May God comfort and guide you thru this difficult time and hold you in the palm of his hand until you are reunited in heaven. Rest in peace my BOP Brother, see you at the end of my watch...............

This job that we do is very dangerous and takes a lot of courage guts to go in deal with the inmate population everyday with just a radio and keys. My hat goes off to all correctional workers who in work enviroment that the public doesn't see but hear and read about. My prayers and blessings goes out to all of the families who lost brave loves in the enviroment that us correctional officers call work everyday.

On behalf of all of us in the BOP, we give our deepest sympathy to the family and friends. Explaining a sudden tragedy is never easy but we must remember to reflect in the fact that God is sovereign; His ways are not our ways, His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55).

So young and yet so traveled in life to have it end so violently and needlessly. I cry for a man I've never met and a brother I'll never know. Those of us who know, live with the nighmare of what happened to you Jose everyday and yet we still forge on. On your behalf, we'll keep forging on and remembering you and the others who were taken from us so senselessly.
