Trooper Haywood, some people don't bellieve in Angels and I know that they do exist, today 1/22/06, your son Darryl, Jr., had his Angel right next to him, I am sure that it was you, he like you was in a terrible accident(he is also a Trooper in Florida (south) but he made it and the news said that the Drs. believe that he is going to be fine (thanks to God and You for been his special Angel)We are all praying for him and for the rest of your family.

Please, take care of him while in the hospital and when he comes out to "serve and protect" our community..

God Bless you

DARRYL MAY YOU FIND PEACE AS YOU PATROL THE HIGWAYS OF HEAVEN .MAY GOD BLESS YOUR SON AS HE EMBARKS UPON HIS JOURNEY. WE ONLY WORKED TOGETHER FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME BEFORE YOU MOVED ON TO FMR N.Y.P.D COMMISSIONER BROWN'S DETAIL. BUT YOU WERE ONE OF THE 1ST BROTHERS TO WELCOME ME WHEN I CAME INTO THE UNIT. I USED TO ALWAYS SEE YOU ON T.V AT PRESS CONFERENCES STANDING BEHIND OR ALONG SIDE THE COMMISSIONER.WITH YOUR GAME FACE ON. AND I WOULD ALWAYS SAY TO MY SELF THAT,S MY HOMEBOY FROM THE BRONX. I KNOW THAT YOUR FAMILY MISSES YOU DEARLY . WE HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN YOU AT HIGWAY ONE

Exactly fourteen months later to the day defendant Donald Williams was sentenced to 30 years in state prison after having been found guilty of contributing to and causing the death of Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Darryl L. Haywood, Sr.

The sentencing of Williams does not take away from the tragic loss of this gentleman and law enforcement officer, and the loss is still no less painful to bear by his family and friends who miss him. Trooper Haywood, Sr. would have been proud of his family as they have carried themselves with grace and dignity through this difficult time. We can only hope for some closure to this so that they have the ability to move forward with their own lives, never forgetting their lost family member.

To FHP Trooper Darryl L. Haywood, Jr., I would like to wish you all the best and good fortune as you start your career with the Florida Highway Patrol. If you are anything like your father, as I imagine you are, the community will be a safer place with you patrolling the streets.

May all of you be blessed and comforted.

Respectfully submitted,

To my beloved Darryl,
A year has passed without my hearing your voice,or seeing your smile. I miss you more than you will ever know.
You are always in my thoughts, always in my heart.
I'm sure that you are watching over us. Please take special care of our son as he follows in your path. Keep him safe from harm, guide him as he rides.
Darryl, justice has prevailed. The person responsible for your accident will be punished. I find little comfort in that, because it will not bring you back to us.
Rest, Darryl. I love you.

He's guilty and going to jail which is what he deserves.....but you, why did you die when you didn't deserve to? No matter how many years he spends in prison, it can't give your wife one more hug or your kids one more time with Dad or your granddaughter one more memory of her Grandfather...what a tragedy...again, thanks for your ultimate sacrifice.

Dear Family of Trooper Haywood,
Isn't amazing how true law enforcement officers just never stop serving and protecting. I was so touched by the article about Trooper Haywood just being honored in the month of July risking his life to save another and then losing his life continuing to do his job to the fullest. Our son Matthew was the same way, his chief would actually have to tell him he HAD to take some time off and not put so many hours in. He just loved what he was doing. We are so lost without him, and know your family feels the same way, even while knowing they wouldn't have been happy doing anything else. Please know we are thinking of you and the great sacrifice your family is enduring.
May God's grace and comfort bring some peace as we all wait to be united.

Love,
Linda Rittenhouse, Matt's Mom

Every motorcyclist I stop, I remember that day. Look after your son as he carries on in your footsteps and look after us as we drive on with the same determination that drove you. We will remember you.

There's a place up in the sky
filled with people we love.
It's up where angels fly,
it's the heavens up above.

The home of our second world
where we will all meet again.
So we must remember that
our lives never really end.

So when you feel sad and blue
and you think you lost all hope,
your loved one's somewhere new,
and there's loved ones here to help you cope.

The one year anniversary will be here in a few days. For some members of your family this past year has been a bad dream, one which when they awake from it find out that what happened to you is a reality. All they can do is take one day at a time and keep your memory alive for your grandchildren and in turn their children. You are a true hero and you will never be forgotten. Watch over your family and comfort them and keep watch over those still out on patrol.

Dearest Linda~
I am not sure if you remember meeting me in D.C. this year, but my mom and I met you in the COPS Merchandise store at National Police Week. I am so sorry that we had to meet under the circumstances, but I wanted to let you know that I think of you daily and pray for you as you travel through your grief journey. I want to let you know that I am available to you 24-7 if you ever feel like you want to talk.
Please know that I am thinking of you in the upcoming days and months and years.
Sincerely,

DEAR LINDA I HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO MEET YOU IN WASHINGTON. MY HEART GOES OUT TO YOU AT THIS VERY DIFFICULT TIME IN YOUR LIFE. REMEMBER TO TAKE THIS ONE DAY AT THE TIME. PEOPLE LIKE TO SAY "GET OWN WITH LIFE" BUT UNTIL THEY HAVE WALKED IN OUR SHOES THEY JUST DO NOT KNOW. I LOVE YOU AND I AM PRAYING FOR YOU. JEAN

If you are able, save for them a place inside of you and save one backward glance when you are leaving for the places they can no longer go, Be not ashamed to say you loved them, though you may or may not have always, Take what they have left and what they have taught you with their dying and keep it with your own, And in time when men decide and feel safe to call the streets insane, take one moment to embrace those gentle heroes you left behind. We will see you in Elysium…

ONE MOMENT

In the whisper of the wind,
I felt God embrace me.
As the voice of a loved one,
I heard God speak to me
Looking in a mirror
I saw God smile at me.
One moment and I knew
That God and I were one.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Though your smile is gone forever,
And your hands we cannot touch;
Still we have so many memories
Of the one we loved so much.
Your memory is our keepsake,
With which we will never part.
God has you in His keeping
And we have you in our hearts.
We know you walk beside us,
And when our lives are through,
We pray that God will take our hands
And lead us straight to you.
Dearest Darryl,
Though God has called you to him, he has allowed you to remain in our hearts and minds. The most wonderful memories of our life together is what sustains me. I know that you are in eternal peace. Continue to watch over us, and protect us, especially Darryl Jr., as he follows in your footsteps as a Trooper. We miss you. Chloe' is still asking God to send her Pop Pop back from heaven. I told her that you are her Guardian Angel. She accepts that.
You are forever my soul-mate, my true love.
God bless you.
Love, Linda
Ancient Egyptians believed that upon death they would be asked two questions and their answers would determine whether they could continue their journey in the afterlife. The first question was, "Did you bring joy?" The second was, "Did you find joy?" For Darryl, the answer to both questions would be YES, Rest In Peace Brother, you will always live in our hearts.
