Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Sheila Herring

As I looked at the ODMP page today, I was deeply saddened to see 3 new names added to the list of heroes. I have read the reflections and tears fall. Officer Herring-Patrick was just doing her job, probably just trying to get in her 8 hours, tell a few stories, laugh at some other officers jokes, and serve her community. It's a sad reminder that a vest will not ensure that you will make it home at the end of the day. Please be careful out there. Recently, our agency also lost an officer who was shot and killed while wearing his vest. It's hard to understand, but, the rest of us must go on. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who was touched by the life of Officer Herring-Patrick. From the reflections that I have read, she seemed like she was a shining star in the sky of Blue. I will think of you, your family, and co-workers and pray for their peace of mind. Please watch over the rest of us, we need all the angels helping us that we can get.

Deputy Faith Hill
Shelby County Sheriff's Office

The pain of the loss of Officer Herring-Patrick is felt by all who stand in the blue line. For the family and friends the pain and sorrow of this great loss words can not ease. Lean on our Lord and he will comfort you and love you through the loss. Take your rest Officer you have earned it. May the Lord bless and protect those who are still standing on the line.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends and co-workers of Officer Sheila Herring-Patrick. I was fortunate enough to have her as my Defensive Tactics instructor while at the Detroit Police Academy in '94. Immediately, I was impressed with her knowledge, motivation and energy. She was a former Marine (as I am) and it was clearly evident where her leadership skills came from. Rest in peace Officer Patrick, you've touched many a police officer's lives. You will never be forgotten. Semper Fidelis...(Always Faithful)..

I was fortunate enough to have met Shelia as a member of the class of 99C of the Hampton Roads Regional Academy of Criminal Justice, where I was one of her staff instructors. I will always remember how her smile would light up a room. It was very apparent how much she loved her chosen profession. It was an honor to have known Shelia, and a blessing to have called her a friend. God bless you, I will truly miss you.

It is indeed a sad day whenever I come to this site and find another name listed. Today that name is Officer Herring-Patrick. At a time when most people run the other way, Officer Herring-Patrick did her job and ran towards the trouble. Unfortunately, even though she was wearing her vest it wasn't enough to save her. God Bless you, Officer Herring-Patrick...your sacrifice will never be forgotten!!!

To the family, friends and co-workers of Officer Herring-Patrick, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I was shocked to hear of this tragic death. I and my family's prayers are with the fallen officer's family. It is a senseless tradgedy.I am sure she passed on to a greater reward and that she was doing what she loved. God Bless her and keep her under his loving embrace.

Another wonderful person taken from us by an ignorant low-life. We've all seen the dispicable behavior of drunks who stumble outside of bars, and thanks to angels like Officer Herring-Patrick, we can all feel safer. To her family and friends, I share your anger and offer my thoughts and prayers to you. Well done, officer.
