Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Sheila Herring

YOU FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT, YOU ALREADY HAVE YOUR VICTORY.
THE REST OF US WILL PATROL YOUR SQUAD AREA, WITH PRIDE!!!!

EL POLICIA

My deepest sympathy to the family that lost such a beautiful person. I miss you cause you were my sister and I'm glad for the times we had and the fun we had training others at the Detroit police academy. I recall how me, you, Paul Poole and Marty Singleton use to laugh when it was time to laugh and when it was time to get serious, we got serious. Your dedication to duty and family was your trademark and I'll always reflect that you were one of the best people I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with. You were more than a partner, you were a good and dear friend.

Sgt. Kevin Brown
Detroit Police Department

My deepest regrets go out to your family, friends, and co-workers. It is always hard to see another officer taken, but to see a fellow female officer... our sisterhood has an angel to watch over us.

Sister in Blue

I watched your funeral live, and it left me mesmerized. You have so many people who love you and could barely speak, and your partner, you can tell he respects you so much. You would have loved to see him sing Amazing Grace and every time I hear it, I think of our fallen Heroes of 9/11 and your pretty face will always be in my mind as well.

I hope your daughter continues her successful path in life, and I know you're looking down on her. She has a true angel in her corner.

Our hearts go out to Sheila's family. Our daughter died on August 1, 2002 upon responding to a call and was hit under the vest just like Sheila was. We understand your pain and sorrow. There are so many questions and no answers. God be with you!

MY DEEPEST CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY OF OFFICER HERRING- PATRICK. I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THE FAMILY IS GOING THRU..... I WAKE EVERY MORNING WANTING SO MUCH TO TURN AND SEE MY LOVE ONES FACE, AS I DID MANY MORNINGS AND THE MORNING BEFORE THE TRAGIC DEATH CAUSED BY A GUN FIRE. OFFICERS LIKE WHO WAS MY SOON TO BE HUSBAND PUT THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE DAY AFTER DAY. I LOOKED BACK TO SEE HOW MANY OFFICERS WERE KILLED LAST YEAR BY GUN FIRE AND 48 WERE KILLED. IT MAKES MY STOMACH TURN TO SEE SO MANY KILLED THIS WAY. TO THE FAMILY OF OFFICER HERRING-PATRICK, THERE IS A CHRISTIAN SONG CALLED "I CAN ONLY IMAGINE" BY MERCY ME (BEAUTIFUL SONG) THIS SONG BRINGS ME SOME SORT OF PEACE. BEFORE JAIME DIED WE WOULD LISTEN TO THIS SONG OVER AND OVER AGAIN. NOW LIKE JAIME AND YOUR LOVED ONE SHEILA HERRING, THEY DON'T HAVE TO IMAGINE ANYMORE THEY ARE IN HANDS OF THE LORD AND WATCHING OVER US.

FI'ANCE OF A FALLEN HERO

My heart sinks everytime I visit this site and see that we've lost another brother or sister. On behalf of the 183 sworn members of the Division Of Law Enforcement, we would like to express our deepest sympathy to the family, friends, and fellow officers of Officer Patrick. A sister lost, but an Angel gained. May her soul rest in eternal peace.

FAMILY AND CO-WORKERS.

GOD BLESS.

PO E. G. PENN
DEPT. OF VETERANS AFFAIRS POLICE

As I read of yet another sensless death of a law enforcement officer, I somehow get a feeling of calm. I reflect on what I was doing the night of this incident at 0200 hours. I was safe in my bed, with out a worry in the world. I am so thankful that there are brave women and men like officer Herring-Patrick who are out on the streets taking care of business and putting life on the line so that I can sleep soundly at night. Your sacrifice will NEVER be forgotten. And there are many that you leave behind that lift you up as a hero. Thanks for your courage and bravery.

As with any tragic death of a police officer, I along with my family are deeply saddened. The passing of Officer Sheila Herring-Patrick has especially struck me in a special way after reading all the related accounts of her life, her love for her family and friends, and for the fact that she has laid down her life for those in Norfolk for whom she vowed to serve and protect. I am positive those close to Sheila will miss her deeply.

Had I still been a resident of Virginia I would have made the journey to Norfolk to have saluted her prsonally. I only wish I could have met Sheila in real life.

Our deepest sympathy is extended to the family, freinds and people within the Norfolk community. You have lost a true hero.

In reading all the reflections left by friends and co-workers, I can see that Sheila was greatly respected. She served our Country as a Marine and lastly as a Police Officer. As I read through these memorials it is painfully obvious what a 10-8 officer you were, you just have a different beat to cover now, and wings to boot! I am thrilled for you because Heaven is such a wonderful beyond words place. I am sad for your family and co-workers who will miss you so badly. Thank you for your dedication and service, I know one day we will meet, and I look forward to that reunion with all of our brothers and sisters in blue.

Today I had the opportunity to attend Officer Herrings funeral and words cannot express the atmosphere I saw and felt today, Even though I did not know Sheila personally, I felt as though Ive been known her for years after leaving today. Even though we as officers have lost some of our repect from the citizens , I can rest of sure you from todays funeral and seeing all of our brothers come together from different departments we will never lose respect for each other. To the Herring family I say God Bless You, To Sheila I say keep smiling and watch over us and be the partner that some of us never had.

To Officer Herring,
After hearing "officer down" over the radio, I cant describe the feeling that came over me. My partner (Officer Leidy) and I rushed to your side and I'll never forget the scene or the words I said to you.

Its still hard to even pass that location without breaking a tear.
This is a Policemens worst nightmare.
You have a new supervisor now and a new district to patrol. Look sharp and keep watch over us as we try to fill your goal. We will meet again one day, untill then, may God rest your soul.
We love and miss you sister.
