Officer Mumford was struck and killed by a truck with extended mirrors while conducting a traffic stop on Hayes Street, NE.

The driver of the truck attempted to pass him as he stood in the road. The officer was struck by the truck's mirror which caused him to spin around. Then, he was struck a second time by the rear of the truck.

Officer Mumford had been employed with the Metropolitan Police Department for 13 years, and is survived by his wife and two children.

Just want you to know I still think of you and what could have been. You are not forgotten. It seems like yesterday that you left us. You were such a great person, officer and those of us who knew you miss that great sense of humor. God bless you Ray Mumford.
