Sergeant Miller was shot and killed in Omaha, Nebraska, after chasing a stolen taxi over the Missouri River and across the state line from Council Bluffs. During the ensuing shootout Sergeant Miller shot and killed the suspect but received a head wound and succumbed to the wound the following day.
