Officer Eugene Keegan and Lieutenant Edward Murphy were killed during an arrest of an armed offender. Officer Kegan and Lieutenant Murphy were conducting an extensive murder investigation.
The officers went to the apartment of a man who had just murdered two employees of a packing plant. Upon arrival, the gunman resisted and fired a barrage of bullets. Both Officer Kegan and Lieutenant Murphy sustained multile and fatal wounds.
The assailant was shot and killed by back-up officers.
