Assistant Chief Charles Driggers was shot and killed and a Coffee County Deputy Sheriff was wounded while attempting to serve a peace warrant on a man. As the officers were walking up to the suspects residence he opened fire with a shotgun.

The suspect was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to death on December 9, 1964.

to the family of Larry Lasater so sorry for your loss. Herman was my uncle that I never got meet,he was killed 3 weeks after I was born. but his son & grandson followed in his footsteps, they are both great men.I wish I would have had the pleasure of knowing him.his brother's my uncle's and my father are all great men.they still talk about him & honner him.
