Officer Ted Davis was killed in a motorcycle accident while escorting nurses and doctors through the streets of Long Beach following a massive earthquake. The bike struck a pothole in the road causing him to strike the ground.

Sergeant Rolland Morton and Special Police Officer Frederick Porter, both of the Santa Monica Police Department, were also killed as a result of the earthquake when the plane they were flying in crashed as they surveyed earthquake damage.

Officer Davis was survived by his wife.
