Policeman A.B. Cursey was shot and killed while attempting to capture a burglary suspect who was breaking into a pawnshop to steal a bicycle. The suspect also shot and wounded a Los Angeles County deputy sheriff who came to the aid of Policeman Cursey.

The suspect was apprehended within a perimeter immediately after the shooting and taken into custody.

Policeman Cursey had served the agency for only three months and was, at the time, the youngest officer in the department. He was survived by his wife.
