Policeman Brothers was shot and killed by a suspect who had been threatening him for the past two weeks after Policeman Brothers arrested him for liquor law violations. Policeman Brothers was in a post office and was called over to the man's car when he came out of the building. When he approached the car the suspect shot him with a shotgun.

The suspect was apprehended, convicted of second degree murder, and sentenced to 30 years in prison. He was paroled July 20, 1951.

Policeman Brothers was survived by his wife and 12 children.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 70th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service to my homestate and the birthplace of my son. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
