Deputy Breland was shot and killed while he and other deputies attempted to serve a warrant. The suspect was found guilty of manslaughter and died while in prison.

Deputy Breland had served with the Colleton County Sheriff's Department for 2 years and was survived by his wife, daughter, parents, brother, sister, and grandmother.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
