Deputy Marshal James Hill was shot and killed as he and other deputy marshals attempted to locate an illegal still at a home Seldovia, Alaska.

The marshals had arrested four suspects at the home, but as they searched a tent on the property, the home's owner opened fire, striking Deputy Marshal Hill.

Deputy Marshal Hill had served with the agency for three years. He was survived by his wife and child.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 85th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
