Deputy Kiser succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained the previous day while conducting a liquor raid. Another deputy accidentally shot Deputy Kiser in the back during the raid.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 78th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service to the native state of myself and my cherished son Larry Lasater who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

The bullets that kill our beloved officers kill a part of everyone who cared for them.
