Patrolman Clifford succumbed to injuries sustained two weeks earlier when he was struck by a speeding car as he stepped off of a curb. He was transported to a local hospital where he contracted pneumonia. The driver of the car that struck him pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and battery.

Patrolman Clifford was survived by his wife and child.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 95th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
