Patrolman Armistead was shot and killed as he and his partner were attempting to arrest a suspect acting suspiciously in the downtown area of Atlanta where all local businesses were closed. While attempting place
handcuffs on the suspect, the suspect produced a handgun and shot both officers, killing Patrolman Armistead.

Patrolman Armistead had been with the agency for three years and was survived by his wife and child.

Granddad, Idid not have the chance to know you, but I did help to inscribe your name for history. My dad, your unborn son, was named after you, thus the Sr. giveing me the Jr. and for this I thank you. Dad was born Nov. 23, 1916 and passed Dec. 25, 2006. You are missed.
