Constable Lee Jones was shot and killed by a subject he had just arrested for attempted murder.

Constable Jones struck the man with his blackjack during the arrest and, feeling he no longer posed a threat, placed him in his patrol car without handcuffing him. During the drive to jail the man attacked Constable Jones, took his gun, and fatally shot.

The man fled to Mexico and was never apprehended.
