Officer Pimentel was killed when his cruiser was struck by a tractor trailer while he was on a traffic stop at 2300 hours. The accident occurred on a five lane highway just inside the city limits. Officer Pimentel's vehicle was parked on the curb lane with more than one mile of visibility from the rear. The tractor trailer drifted to the side of the road due to driver fatigue and struck Officer Pimentel's cruiser, which was pushed into the other vehicle. The driver of the other car was injured.

Officer Pimentel is survived by his wife, two small children, parents, and brother.

Always fair, honest and kind. When I used to work at Taco Bell, you always came in to get something to eat, and make sure everyone in the store was safe by patroling the parking lot as often as you could. I remember when you passed, and I saw your family on television crying. It broke my heart, even though I didn't know you personally. Thank you for being one of the few who was about your job, and your kindness. May you continue to R.I.P. and continue to watch over your city!
