Deputy Sheriff Arturo Balboa was shot and killed while attempting to negotiate with a bank robbery suspect who was holding several people hostage inside a bank.

The suspect suddenly shot Deputy Balboa and then attempted to flee. He was shot and wounded by other officers and then taken into custody.

Deputy Balboa was a WWII veteran.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 40th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
