Chief of Detectives Street was shot and killed while confronting a bandit at a convenience store at the corner of San Pedro Street and Laurel Street. Chief Street was on a stakeout of the location with two other detectives when the suspect entered the store to rob it.

Chief Street appeared and confronted the suspect. The man turned, pulled out two pistols, and fatally shot Chief Street.

The suspect was arrested and sentenced to death, but the sentence was later reduced to life in prison. He was paroled on September 13, 1957.

Chief Street had served with the agency for 10 years. He was survived by his wife and children.
