Reflections for Police Officer James Ryan McCandless

Officer McCandless,

Thank you for your service and for attempting to investigate the suspicious activity that was taking place in the city you swore to protect and defend.

To the Rapid City PD, we are very sorry for your loss. We recently lost an officer that was struck (possibly intentionally) on the freeway by a drunk driver. Nearby, in San Antonio, we've lost a couple of other officers recently as well, one being shot while simply waiting at a red light.

We grieve with you and pray that God will greatly comfort you and Officer McCandless's family.

Officer Long,

Thoughts and Prayers go out to Mr.Mccandless fiance, family, friends and fellow officers.

2 Corinthians 1:3-5 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.”

What a sad evening here in Rapid City my family and I are residence here in this town. My family and I know all to well about what the family and friends of this true hero are going through. As my children and I lost a loved one a father/spouse in the line of duty in 2006. Advice that we can share is, although the heartache and memory will always remain that in time it will ease and through memories good times and bad you will get through this tragedy. Officer McCandless thank you for protecting our city you are a hero may you RIP. God Speed may you look over your brothers as they will your family.

Chief Allender, Rapid City PD, Citizens of Rapid City,
"To live on in the hearts of those we leave behind is not to die." Campbell
My trusted friend and confidant, Sgt. Steve Kenner of the Bismarck Police Department was shot and killed at the scene of a domestic dispute on 8 July 2011. I have yet to come to grips with Steve's death. After 40 years in public safety, fire and LE, I am at a loss.
Please believe me when I most reverently suggest that we are not alone and that as confusing as things may be, good will always triumph. You will see this in the days to come. Live on with Ryan in your heart and know that thousands of people across this great land of ours have your back today and into the future. Stay safe, keep the faith, and always do good things so the bad guys do not win.

I have never met Officer McCandless, but my prayers go out to him, his fiancee' and the rest of his family. I of all people know that a situation can go wrong without warning, and that is why the word "hero" does not come close to the bravery used by all officers of the law.
