THE POLICE OFFICER'S PRAYER
TO St. MICHAEL

Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police,
who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premises
of all its undesirables, look with kindly and professional
eyes on your earthly force.

Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for
investigation and wise judgment.

Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and
law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores,
strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.

You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences
with the devil that the police officer's lot on earth is not
always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so
pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the
devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.

And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your
heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the
throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all
the people. Amen.

Lincoln County Sheriff's Office

This truly breaks my heart for Officer McCandless, his family, but especially his fiance'. I can say with certainty though that during this rough time, the law enforcement community WILL rally behind you and offer you any assistance you need. We have traveled the United States and have seen how strong the brotherhood truly is, first hand. You are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time, as well as the other injured officers. I pray for your peace and their recovery.

Finally, to Officer McCandless, thank you for your bravery, your courage, and your honor. It is with great sadness that I say, job well done, your brothers have it from here. You are a HERO. 1*

I am sorry for the loss of this wonderful officer. I am also sorry for the family, police family and fiance who have been left behind to suffer silently. Several years ago we had an officer killed at the Mobile Police Department. It was the first officer many of us had seen killed in the line of duty first hand. It was awful to sit behind the scenes. I cannot imagine the pain the family feels and more the pain the woman that was to marry this man feels never getting that chance, much like our officer. Every day we risk our lives for people we do not know for the rush we get for this job. We love what we do or we would not keep doing this job for the small pay and big headaches. It is so unfortunate this officer did not get to live out his dreams with his soon to be wife. I pray the police family will come together and support her in her time of need. God bless the hurting police family while they mourn their loss.

Being originally from South Dakota, it is hard to see an officer killed in the line of duty, let alone any officer from anywhere. It is never a good day when this happens. My thoughts and prayers go out to Officer McCandless, his family/friends and to the other officers involved in this unfortunate incident. May God watch over you sir. RIP brother, we have your watch from here.
