The scene of this tragedy is where my friends and I grew up many years ago. It is not a "Ghetto" by any stretch of imagination, yet "Ghetto-minded" fools think it is a badge of honor to wreak havoc in our communities. Thanks for trying to make a difference, my brother. Godspeed to you and your family for your journey is complete.

Thanks for the memories of seeing your mother bringing you and your sister Sandra to church on Sundays when you were children; for seeing and hearing you present your science fair project when you were about nine years old to the Science Fair Judges, Rev. Wright and Dr. Colleen Birchett with authority and with the expertise of an outstanding scientist; for your thespian participation in the TUCC Dance Ministries and for being an ambassador of 'The New Life Performance Company' in their outreach programs of, each one, teach one; for seeing you as a teenager and later a young adult, drive yourself and your sister to Church; for hearing of your academic choices for higher learning; for the places that I prayed for traveling mercies for you when you were on your tours of duty representing our countries finest, after talking with your father about you, Andre, Sandra, and Michael; learning of the 'love' of your life, Caitlen, I say/write/type to you, your family, your loved ones, and your friends, God bless you all, and as Bob Hope used to say and sing..."Thanks for the memories"!

Tours of Duty: In Memory of Thomas Wortham IV
These eyes hold the tears of the eyes of your son
It‘s been sixty hours since you have slept
Remember our pledge to bury his gun.
In your afterbirth, new life had begun
One instant infant gaze and your heart leapt
These eyes hold the tears of the eyes of your son.
Upstanding manboy even then, chores done
He'd meet the siren sidewalk, promises kept
Remember our pledge to bury his gun.
His mettle to serve meant medals to be won
Brave in blue on streets, green-clad on shores he stepped
These eyes hold the tears of the eyes of your son.
You prayed, counted days, cloistered as a nun
Hallowed on the night he homeward crept
Remember our pledge to bury his gun
Like IEDs, sudden sidewalk shots would stun
Even the Fates, who uncontrollably wept
These eyes hold the tears of the eyes of your son
Remember our pledge to bury his gun.
