The death of any Policeman is always a sad occasion but reading about your death is especially hard. Having read that you were just in our nation's capital to attend the National Peace Officer's memorial and then visited my hometown of NYC where you met with members of NY's finest and after having served our country to die in this manner in your own country is especially hard to take. By all accounts you were an outstanding young man, Officer and American. The likes of which only come along once in a blue moon. God Bless you and your family. Chicago please honor this man's memory and send him home in grand style.

I was working when Officer Wortham was murdered. I remember the chill in my spine when they announced "10-1". I watched as the ambulance along with a phalanx of CPD squads rushed past 87th and Ashland toward Christ Hospital.

It doesn't seem real some times, what happened that night. Thank God for Officer Wortham and the contributions he and his family have made to make Chicago a safer place. He will be missed.

To all those who worked with Officer Wortham: We're with you, God watches over all of you. God bless you all.

As I watched the local news coverage of this incident, it occurred to me just how much the men and women of the CPD have to put up with in this godforesaken city. Is not only on duty but off duty too in particular because of the residency requirements. They cannot escape from one of the most dangerous citys in the nation, even off duty. This man not only served this nation in his two tours, he also served this city and we are grateful. We sit around as citizens while others among us carry the load and pay a terrible price. God bless Tom, his father and his family. They are the courageous among us and they will have a special place in heaven.

What a sad story. It is hard to make sense of what God is doing up there as He continues to allow these good men to die.

I hope that the family finds some measure of solace in knowing that Officer Wortham was a hero in every sense of the word. There are many on the streets of Chicago and overseas that owe him thanks.

RIP Officer Wortham, you will never be forgotten.

This just breaks my heart. A hero who served in the military and then came back to his job in Chicago. To think he honored those who fell in the line of duty last year a few days before, now this selfless hero will be honored next year. God bless the department, all officers in blue and most especially his father who had to witness this senseless act by cowards. Rest in peace, HERO!

For Police Officer Thomas Wortham, IV:

Hardly anyone who is, or was, a law officer can read of this tragedy and not envision being in either the shoes of Tom or his father. The stress of such a situation is only truly felt by those familiar with the streets and this species of vermin among us that inhabits them. I regret that Tom's bullet did not it's mark, and though it will not bring him back I find exultation in knowing that his father was able to bring about some immediate justice for his son, Tom.

We pray for Tom, his father, the entire family both at home and at his station, his friends and all who care about him. May they be ready to come to Tom's family's aid immediately, as his father did, when the need arises.

I am proud to salute Officer Thomas Wortham, both father and son, on this day that I truly wish never had to come.
