DON'T GRIEVE FOR ME"
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free
I'm following the path god laid for me.
I took his hand when I heard him call,
I turn my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Task left undone must stay that way,
I found that peace at the close of the day.
If my parting has left a void,
Than fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
Ah yes, these things I, too, will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow,
My life's been full, I savored much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now, He set me free.
R.I.P. Brother we will take it from here.

Adams County Washington St.

Walking the point
by Doyle Wheeler SDPD Retired
When I was young man I walked the point in this land.
Taking each day of my life was in my hands, hoping that I had quick and tough hands.
I had my share of gun fights winning each one as luck was on my side.
Now I look at these brave men and women walking the point facing bigger guns.
Where do we get such brave daughters and sons willing to face these crooks with guns?
Just when you make sure there is no gun, you worry about drunk drivers killing you.
Walking the point talks it toll young men and women quickly grow old.
There will be times when you lose friends and it’s impossible to understand.
The pain runs so deep you think you’ll die you hide from loved ones and friends
and don’t let them see you cry.
You miss them more than you can say partly because they were ripped away.
I buried ten in ten years the highest number in the nation was ours to lose.
Twenty years later I still have a whole in my heart
for brave friends that were taken for walking the point!
They walk the point so that the rest of us may lay down and rest,
Without any doubt they’re America’s best, but sadly most people could care less.
They don’t understand the sacrifices made for them by hundreds of thousands each day.
Every three days on average one falls walking the point for us all.
Where do we get such brave women and men, may God bless all of them!
Dedicated to my brave sisters and brothers putting their lives on the line throughout this country every day and night so hopefully someday the public may come to understand what you’ve sacrificed for this land. I send you my most sincere blessing and my prayers to ease your pain.

Mike ~ we were so hopeful and prayed you would pull through this. I do not know what happened or why God called you home. Only he knows that. Our agency has suffered so much loss over the last 18 months. I would never have thought it would happen again so soon. You will be missed dearly by us all here at the MHP. You are a hero in our eyes. I pray for your family, District 6 and all those close to you. Rest in peace...we will continue to serve in your honor.
