Officer Cotton,
Another terrible day in the history of the New Orleans Police Department. It is so sad when a terrorist can reak havoc on our community and vulnerable citizens. Officer Cotton, true HEROS put the welfare of others before their own. You are a true HERO for your dedication to your community and for trying to make the wrongs of the world right again. Twenty four years ago another one of our sisters was murdered (Officer Irma Lozada New York Transit Police E.O.W. September 21, 1984) while also trying to arrest a terrorist reaking havoc in her community. Your tour of duty has ended, we'll take over your watch now.
God Bless Officer Nicola Cotton New Orleans Police Department and the Cotton family.

Prince George's County Police/former Maryland State Trooper

Officer Cotton,

As a female on the brink of a career in law enforcement, your story has especially touched me. It scares me that one day, I too could find myself struggling with someone bigger and stronger than me for my life. And I too, could eventually end up overpowered and have my life senselessly snatched away.

Nevertheless, like you, I long to serve my community and to make a positive difference. And I'm not going to let that fear stop me. Because you didn't let it stop you. You gave someone twice your size hell for SEVEN minutes and went down fighting.

Your murderer - and other dangerous persons out there like him who have no regard for human life - might think he won because he was finally able to take your gun and use it against you (apparently the only way he ever could've gotten you down!), but he is really the loser in this. They all are. Because your life, your final moments, and your death, are only going to strengthen the resolve of current and future officers everywhere to want to work as hard as they can to get these kinds of people off the streets.

So if in fact I ever do find myself in the same situation, I too am going to fight like hell for my life. And for you.

Rest peacefully with your child. You would've made an excellent mother.

Thank you for your service. Thank you for your sacrifice. And thank you for the inspiration.
