Oh My God, this enrages me beyond belief, to the point that my blood has completely boiled to steam!

This fine young and happy officer, PREGNANT WITH HER UNBORN CHILD....was working to make her city move on after Katrina...was senselessly executed by a slimy and slithering COWARDLY ASSASIN! A murdering piece of garbage who is not worthy of breathing useful oxygen. I hope that he simmers in brimstone for this!

To the family, friends and colleagues of OFC Cotton, I am so saddened over this horrible and brutal tragedy. I lost a sister I never knew that sad and dark day in the Crescent City. All of you remain in my thoughts and prayers.

Our sister Nicola now rests on the honor guard in Heaven with St. Michael, as her final roll call was held in this life. We miss you young sister. You and your unborn baby can rest in the arms of the Heavenly Father.

Your sacrifice was inspiration to us all. God belss sister and rest easy, we have the watch from here.

Be safe out there brother and sister officers!

Galena AK Police Dept.

My deepest sympathy to the colleagues, friends and family of Officer Cotton. She made the ultimate sacrifice because she believed in and acted upon the values of law, order and respect that have always characterized the best police officers. I am sure she will be missed greatly, but she has left a lasting legacy and touched the hearts and minds of citizens all over the country. I honor her. May she rest in peace, and may her loved ones be comforted in their time of sorrow.

Officer Cotton, my deepest sympathy goes out to your family, friends and the New Orleans Police Department, may God give them comfort during this difficult time. A loss like this deeply affects all of us in the law enforcement family. Your family should be proud knowing you lost your life trying to protect your community, you are indeed a hero. Go now and let the Lord cradle you and your unborn child.

As someone with deep family roots in New Orleans, I felt the catastrophic events of Hurricane Katrina deeply. I applaud the efforts of those who decided to rebuild the city, and rebuild the public trust. Officer Cotton could have been anywhere else in the country, but chose New Orleans. They call law enforcement "the thin blue line"...any time an officer's life is taken, the thin blue line is both diminished, and made then made stronger overall. Officer Cotton's passing has deeply hurt the men and women of the New Orleans Police Department, but she gives strength to all those who wear the badge. My sympathies to the Police Department and to Officer Cotton's family.

I read about Officer Cotton's death in the national media. I've no connection to her or the city of New Orleans; it's my simple wish to comment on the amazing courage this young officer showed. To be alone in an extremely violent district and voluntarily confront a suspect twice her size simply from duty shows what strength of character she possessed. If her family should happen to read this: you did an amazing job raising a woman of courage and character, and you are to be commended. She is an inspiration and an example who will never be forgotten.

What happened to Nicola sounds so much like what happened to my father-in-law. A mentally ill man was able to get his gun from him during a struggle. By the time his backup arrived, it was too late also.

To the family and friends of Nicola, I pray you will be able to find peace in days to come.

To her coworkers, I pray for you to have God's protection as you work your shifts. Please keep in touch with Nicola's family. It's very hard being in the public spotlight and having so much support from local law enforcement and from law enforcement all over the state and then suddenly to hear from hardly anyone at all. I urge you to give them a phone call or stop by their house frequently just to let them know that they are not alone in their grief and that Nicola is not and never will be forgotten.
