We all know the very real danger we face when we go to fight for not only our nation’s freedom, but the freedom of those who cannot fight for themselves. Freedom is NOT free and only those who serve or have served (including their families) understand the true cost. We pay for it with our own freedom and you and others like you offered up the ultimate sacrifice. You are a warrior and a hero. You defended those who defend America and it’s way of life. There is no higher calling, nor service to our country. We will move on, we will do right by you and your sacrifice, we will not forget you. Rest in peace brother. May God grant your family solace from their grief. Watch over us as we continue the fight.

I can tell you the sun will shine again,

Nate,
What can I say but that I am still deeply saddened by the news of your death. We met very briefly in Baltimore, MD for a training class. You made each and every day meaningful and full of fun. I feel priviledged to have sat next to you for three weeks and participated in the activities with you and your group, Kyle and Ted included.

We had a fantastic time laughing, drinking, partying, playing, and having an overall good time. I think Ted and Kyle will remember your wish to open up a "LOOPY PENGUIN". If I am ever fortunate to visit your resting place, rest assured I'll bring a penguin to put on your headstone.

You were a gentleman, a sailor, a traveler, an optimist, an adventurer, but most of all a friend of mine for too short of a time. My thoughts were with you when I was in Iraq and I only wished you could have made it home before that fateful trip that took your life too soon. You will forever be missed, you are truly a hero.

To Nate's family and friends, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Nate,
Go in peace brother.

To SA Schuldheiss' family and friends. I am sure glad my brothers behind the badge showed their support to you during this troubling time. I was reluctant to attend the memorial on Sunday but knew you and yours would take some comfort knowing we are all there with you in grieving. I am glad I attended. While the loss of your son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend will never be filled I sincerely hope you take some comfort in knowing he was with our best in Balad and will never be forgotten. To Region 8 and especially SA Nyle Miller, thanks for doing your part in helping our extended family.

To those who grieve for SA Nathan Schuldheiss. It is with deep regret that you have lost a loved one, and as a grandmother of a Security Force Member who lost her life also by an IED, my hart and prayers go out to you. Their lives were cut short by cowards who refuse to stand up and fight for their beliefs, but our young men and women give all that they can to make Freedom a universal right. Your grieving heart is felt by all of us and I thank you and Nathan for being their to show us the way. He will not be forgotten. With my heartfelt condolences to you all, Sondra

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Agent Schuldheiss, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.

Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow?
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
My mind drifts away, we only have today

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way
I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you who is closest

Nate--

They're having a memorial service for you tomorrow in Denver. AFOSI Region 8 will be there to support your family and friends. I'm ashamed to say that I do not have it in me to attend your service. Memorial services for soldiers killed in Iraq are too much for me now; it brings back too many ghosts from my past. Go in peace.

To the family, friends, and colleagues of Nathan J. Schuldheiss,

My heart and prayers are with you all. Nate was a dear friend in high school. Even back then he was smart, ambitious, confident, and a gentleman. He taught me to enjoy life and have fun even in the hard times. We lost touch in college, and I so hoped to reconnect at our high school reunion next year. I'm deeply saddened by the news of his loss. And what a tremendous loss it is. I am blessed to have known him, even if just for a season.

God bless your soul, and rest in peace, my friend. Thank you for your service and sacrifice for this country. May God watch over your family during this difficult time.

Nathan,
I met you in Omaha when I came back into town to move our household goods after Dan was killed. You were witty, upbeat, and brought light to a very dark, difficult time. I remember the running joke of you being the office "metrosexual", (and had to laugh because I heard that Dan held that title for a while, too!) It is with that same light and humor that I will hold my memories of you.
The last time I saw you, it was by chance that we were honoring Dan at a ceremony on the same day you finished ADOC and were getting ready to deploy. I was happy to see your familiar face at the time, and the conincidence of it all seems strange now.
I know that Dan met you on the other side with a joke and a beer, and that you are surrounded by your fellow fallen heroes in the afterlife.
I wish your family much love and support as they make their way through this crisis in search of peace and eventual acceptance.
