To Nathan's Parents, Family and Friends,
There is no way to express the sadness that is felt for Nathan, and especially for you. Having lost a brother early in life, I know how the loss continues to live with each member of the family, especially for parents losing a son so young and talented.
I was privileged to have Nathan in class in the Spring of 2000. He was enrolled in a course I teach in Music in Film and Television. He was an A student.
Be assured of my thoughts and prayers for you. Be assured also of the thoughts and prayers of all the Jesuits here at Gonzaga.

Dear Nate:

I do not have the words to describe my feelings of remorse, saddness, and loss.

You were an adventurer, a gambler, a gentleman, a scholar, a fighter, a pool player, a ladies man, a sailor, an athlete, a hero, a loyal friend, a best friend, and a brother. You lived life to its fullest, with the pedal to the medal and no regrets. I could live ten life times and not meet one more of you. You taught me more about myself and life than anyone to date. I came to you for advice on anything and everything.

We watched movies, went to parties, went to class, went to sea, went to Europe, went to the four corners of our country, and would have gone farther yet with just some more time.

But time is gone now, and I will now do things without you; with a hole in my heart. But I can find comfort knowing that we will meet again; and I find comfort knowing that we did it all and had a damn good time doing it.

So it is with a saddened heart and a mournful soul that I leave this post for you. A final goodbye. You lived, you fought, and you died - and I don't think you would have wanted to do it any other way.

God bless your soul my friend.

"A coward turns away, but a brave man's choice is danger."

While this quote describes all law enforcement, it is particularly appropriate here. This warrior ran to the sounds of battle while others ran away. He is a true hero and I salute him for his life and honor him for his sacrifice.

I worked with Nate for a short period at Offutt AFB, NE and during that time got know Nate for the intelligent, confident, witty, smart alec he was. I remember meeting Nate for the first time and being struck by the confident self assured way he carried himself. In our office you could never survive without thick skin and quick wit, and Nate from day one demonstrated he had both and was ready to fight back on any issue.
Nate spoke of how he joined OSI because he wanted to make a difference and serve the military and his country. I will remember Nate for the brave man he was, stepping up to defend his country, volunteering to do a dangerous mission because he believed in what he was doing. I will remember the good times, his cutting sarcasm, and his confident fun loving personality.

My Dear Nathan - You grew to become wonderful, intelligent, kind-hearted, loving, and all-around awesome person. I love and miss you so very much. I'm truly heart-broken that such a horrible thing could happen to someone with so much promise. Freedom is worth fighting for...and for this cause, you made the ultimate sacrifice. I am so proud of your hard work and everything you did! You're my cousin, my friend, and America's hero. I take heart in knowing that you are in a better place. God simply called you home.

To Jeff, Sarah, and Erin - I am so sorry for your loss. Nathan was an incredible human being. I know how much he loved his family...with all of his heart. As long as you remember him, he will be with you always. I love you all. If you need anything at all, please don't hesitate to ask.

Love,
Kim
