For a man like Chuck there are no words to describe his fairness, good solid character and since of pride for the bagde and his fellow officers. Chuck, was my training officer in the 39th District 19 years ago. Since that time I have lost many friends who also wore the badge. My ex-partner Leddie Brown, Peter Porter, who Chuck also taught the lessons of how to survive on the Police Department in the 39th District and on last out. I will always remeber Chuck as a man who whistled while he worked. I believe that I made it this far because of some of the lessons taught to me by Chuck.

I will remeber Chuck as a man of integrity a since of fair play and honesty. A man never to busy to help his fellow officer. Chuck never lost to many a foot pursuits, and he could find a stolen car anywhere. I will miss Chuck and his whistling while he worked. Chuck was steady in courage and in friendship. As a rookie Chuck gave me my first arrest. I have many fond memories of Chuck and I know he will be missed, but thank you for sharing him with us. Your friend from the 39th District 19 years ago.

I reflect on all the blessing's in my life right now. There is yet (another) officer who made the ultimate sacrifice and did not go home one day after 25 yrs of going home. There is yet (another) family that will have to "go on" without someone they love.
Sometimes, (most times) we forget about the seriousness of the job and position we're in by putting that uniform on. We never expect that someone will hate us just for that reason alone. I pray that God blesses the memory of Chuck, and comfort's the grief his family will endure. And I thank the staff of this site for allowing us a place to "vent" and give additional comfort to his and all families of fallen brother's/sister's in blue.

Officer Cassidy, thank you for your service and dedication. I know you are watching down on all of those left to fill your shoes on the street. Please keep us safe. We will make sure the animal that took you from this earth is brought to justice. From now, Rest in Peace Brother.

"Officer Down"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I approach the vehicle, as bluelights bounce around me,
It's not a matter of like and hate, it's the violation I saw.
As I get closer, the danger I do not see,
I'm thinking of enforcing the law.

I hear the shot, and feel the pain,
As I drop to the ground
The car speeds off driven by a man who has to be insane,
As I finally into my radio, mumble,"Officer Down!"

As I lay there, I thought of my wife,
I see the dreams we had made.
I ask the Lord to please spare my life,
Then I felt myself begin to fade.

I stopped him only for speeding,
Then I heard a sweet voice on my ear.
"Come with me son, to Heaven I am leading.
No more will you have to shed a tear."

I opened my eyes to see my Savior,
He said, "Follow me, my son.
He will pay for his behavior,
For you have performed a job well done!"

The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
