I would like to pass on my heartfelt condolences to Officer Polizzotto's family. Obviously he was running towards the gunfire as othters were running away from it. It's a sad day for law enforcement. Again--my condolences to his family. I'm sure they are proud of his service to this great nation. Jim Lopey, Assistant Sheriff (ret.), now Fusion Center Director

Nick,

When my husband told me the news this morning that you were gone, I thought I was having a bad dream. I did not think that it could be true. Another life of an officer taken senselessly by a coward. All I can remember is the smiling face that would visit the radio room. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain that your family and those who are closest to you are going through. My thoughts and prayers are with them and the entire SBPD. You are truly in a better place. Rest peacefully.

my heart goes out to the polizzotto family. this is a terrible situation compounded by the fact that just one year ago, we laid another of our lasalle family members to- rest way to soon and without reason. mrs. pollizotto taught us with love and compasssion and treated us all like one of her own and it was a blessing to have gone to school with her children. no one deserves this especially a family like the pollizatto. god bless mrs. polizotto, tony, amy, and especially nick... our prayers are with you.

The city and people of South Bend are again in grief at the loss of another fine police officer, right on the heels of the one year anniversary of mourning the loss of the heroic Cpl. Scott Severns. You, Cpl. Nick Polizzotto, were taken by the bad guy, but you can never be taken from the hearts and minds of the people you helped. I wasn't one of them. But the city, and the world, has lost one of their best...
