Danny,
Even though I didn't know you that well, I thought quite highly of you. I had met you a few times years ago in Poteau. Believe it or not even way out here in Raleigh, I heard your name mentioned several times. It was always in a positive way. I have never heard anyone say anything about you that wasn't positive. Being a law enforcement officer for several years in Leflore County, I thought that you would've made enemies. If you did I never spoke to any of them.I was so sorry to hear about what happened. It may not mean much to your family, but I tell all of my brothers in blue out here that we lost a valuable member of our family in blue on that fateful night. May you rest in peace brother. Your family in blue from across the nation will miss you and do our best to honor you and all of our other brothers and sisters who have fallen in the line of duty.

every day our loved ones put on the uniform and put their lives on the line for us. What most of us don't realize is that they wonder every day if the bad guys will allow them to return home at the end of the day. Danny paid the price for being one of our heros but I am sure he died doing what he loved. It is obvious that he loved being a police officer which is why he was so dedicated. We should all feel honored that he dedicated his life to watching over us and now he will forever be watching over us. Thank you, Danny.....you will never be forgotten. My heart breaks for his family and all who loved him. God bless you all.

The world has lost a great person and officer. To say I am saddened is an understatement. Without a doubt Danny had no idea what an impact he made on the lives of the people he came in contact with. I pray he is looking down from Heaven with that smile and feels the pride of a job well done. God Bless you Danny along with all the officers that face so much danger every day. Bring peace to his family that loved him so much!

*** Time has been changed to 8pm, please note***

Okay, please pass this along to everyone....

I am holding a candlelit service for Danny Martinez, his family and all of our wonderful law enforcement. I want to show everyone our appreciation and support for what they do.

Too often we don't take the time to thank them for putting their lives on the line (which they do everyday) to keep us feeling safe. There are alot of caring people who I feel would also like to show their love and support for Danny and all law enforcement officers. I would like for all of us to come together on the evening of his funeral services and show that support, love, affection, emotion... whatever you want to call it.

The ceremony will be held Friday night, starting around 8 pm out at the PARC in Poteau. I ask that everyone bring a paper cup, paper plate, candle (already assembled), and any memoribilia (?) that you have of Danny, his wife, kids, family, friends... or any other law enforcement officer you would like to support. There will be a central location to place pictures, poems, anything that you may bring. We will deem this the "Dedication Station" for everyones viewings.

I ask that you please DO NOT LIGHT YOUR CANDLES! I want this to be a flame that starts with his closest member (wife, kids, family - if they can make it) and extend from them all the way back around to it's original starting point (a huge chain) for them to see how much support, and love there is for them and other law enforcement officer.

Please repost this, and pass it along to everyone you know.... and when I give the final details, please do the same then.

Please forgive me if I left anything out on here, I can't type or concentrate very well when I can't see the computer screen for all the tears in the way.

L'il Danny will be missed. My fondest memories of Danny were times he and his twin spent playing with my younger brother. L'il Danny will always be a kid in my memory, even though he died a Man doing a Heroe's job.

Your two daughters, one son and two step children will benefit from others memories of you but may never know how good a man you really were. Know that your father, step-mother, mother and family will always make sure that your children are loved deeply and never forget you.

Danny always had that beautiful smile on his face that just made you want to be around him..... He will be forever missed. We all have memories of Danny and I know every one of mine will stay in my heart forever. He was the only police officer that I knew that woke up every day and never complained about going to work. He had the best personality. God made a wonderful person when he created Daniel. Much love and prayer goes out to the family and friends.

Daniel, I pray for your family every night. I pray for strength to all your loved ones and friends. I pray for easy mourning time. And I pray that you wil still watch over us and protect us just as before. You are in our hearts Danny... We love and miss you dearly. May God Bless You and Rest In Peace..... We'll see you soon.

How sad, the world we live in! An officer gave his life and left his children so that a mother could have her child back. He had no way of knowing the outcome, but knew the possibility was there. I honor officer Martinez as a true hero, a man who should always be remembered for the sacrifice that he made for the people of his country.

Danny, I am so glad that I have had the opportunity to work with you. Your presence gave me a peace of mind. On raids I always felt safe with you. I know you had our back. Your great sense of humor and confident smile assured everyone that everything would be fine. Your work with the 16th DTF did so much to help all of our communities. You were a squared away officer. Thanks for helping make me a better officer. You are an inspiration to us all. My prayers are with you and your family. It will be hard to carry on but I know there will always be an extra man on the entry team. God speed

I can not put into the words the terrible saddness I have in my heart for you, your wife, and your children. In a perfect world you would not have been asked to give your life in order to protect the citizens of this county.
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU IN HIS LOVING ARMS.

On March 23rd,2007 the Martinez family, the Fort Smith Police Dept and the world at large suffered a great tragedy. Ofc Danny Martinez was shot and killed in the line of duty. Danny was a veteran officer, but had only been at this department for a short time. He had shown himself to be a competent and dedicated officer, working tonight even though he was sick and could have gone home, not wanting to let his brothers down. Danny, there was no way you could do that. He exemplified what we all strive to be...professional, knowledgeable and hard working. He was a family man, married with 5 kids, who he loved and cared for. Danny was a good friend and had many friends, all over LeFlore County where he was from, and many new ones from Fort Smith. His loss is a great void from which there is no consolation. He will be forever in our hearts as we go out and do what we signed on to do, knowing how dangerous it always is, knowing that there is someone out there who needs our protection. We'll swallow our grief so we can deal with yours when we arrive at your house, but we will never forget our brother Danny.
