Rest in peace Danny. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. We will miss you.

With the lack of good role models in this world, one only has to look at our fallen officers to find the real heroes as well as the ones who are left behind to carry on. I attended the funeral of another fallen hero, Officer Mark Nix of the Dallas Police Department today. I know all too well the danger of being an officer yet these brave men and women continue to do it every day.

My prayers are with Officer Martinez's family and fellow officers.

I heard the news as I was leaving the area on Saturday morning. Danny and I went through the Reserve academy together when he started his career. I can't express the sorrow that I have for this guy, even though I haven't worked with him in years. I new when he started, he was going to be a great asset to whoever he worked for. My heart goes out to his family, and all that new him well. Go with God Danny.

I WRITE THIS NOTE 2 DAYS PRIOR TO YOUR FUNERAL. YOUR DEATH HAS CONSUMED THE MEDIA AND THE COMMUNITY. EACH TIME I SEE THE NEWS REPORTS OR HEAR RADIO COMMENTS I AM REMINDED OF THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS JOB WE HOLD. I WAS IN FORT SMITH THE NIGHT YOU WERE KILLED AND ACTUALLY SAW SOME OF YOUR FELLOW OFFICERS RUNNING "CODE" TO GET TO YOUR LOCATION. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THE DREAD AS THEY TRIED TO GET TO YOU AND HELP IN ANY WAY THEY COULD. I PRAY THAT I WILL NEVER KNOW THAT FEELING MYSELF. I HAVE SPOKE WITH SOME PEOPLE RECENTLY THAT WORKED WITH YOU IN OKLAHOMA AND THEY SING YOUR PRAISES. YOU WOULD BE PROUD FOR WHAT THEY HAVE SAID. ON FRIDAY I WILL ATTEND YOUR FUNERAL ALONG WITH HUNDERDS OF OTHER OFFICERS AND I'M SURE I WILL FIND MYSELF OVERWHELMED AS I THINK OF THE SACERFICE YOU HAVE MADE. YOU WILL BE HONORED WITH AN "OFFICERS FUNERAL" BUT EVEN THIS GESTURE WILL FALL WELL SHORT OF THE DEBT WE OWE YOU. KNOW THAT YOUR SACERFICE WAS NOT UNNOTICED AND YOUR EFFORTS NOT FORGOTTEN.

I served as a police officer and a Chief Of Police for over 20 years and know all too well the danger that lurks on every call no mater how insignificant they may seem. It does not mater what department an officer works for and each time one falls a piece of my heart breaks off. I did not know you other than we both served the people in the face of danger each and every day. All I can offer is prayers for your family and those you served with. It must be a joyous day in heaven because another hero has gone home. Rest in peace my brother.

As a retired officer of the Fort Smith Police Department having spent 25 years with that brotherhood and in my total career 0f 31 years I have known many young men and women who have stepped forward to the front line of their communities to serve. In that time all four of my sons have also chosen to serve and are wearing badges, serving. "GREATER LOVE HAS NO ONE THAN THIS" Many search their whole lives for contentment, Danny found his. Content to serve, his Lord, his bride, his family and us! This is what makes Danny a hero to us, but an obedient child to our Lord. 2 Timothy 4:7 "I HAVE FOUGHT A GOOD FIGHT, I HAVE FINISHED MY COURSE, I HAVE KEPT THE FATH" and the Lord says to Danny: "WELCOME HOME FAITHFUL SERVANT".

Badges of silver and stars of gold
Shrouded in black, a story is told

Early one morning when most people slept
A newly made widow quietly wept

A knock on the door, two people in blue
Told her the story that could not be true

Her husband, best friend, had given his life
Serving a stranger, a victim of strife

Handling a call, most think routine
A person disturbed, a typical scene

Helping a stranger, a cop gave his life
When a drunken young man wanted to take his own life

So in honor of him and his sacrifice
But also to show his grieving wife

Her love's death has meaning, He died not in vain
All of us to, will share in her pain

So we cover our badges and stand now in line
Forever, a promise, his memory will shine

As the parent of a police officer I can only say that the general public has no idea of what this brotherhood endures each day on "the job". We tend to forget that these officers are more than just ticket-writers. They put their lives in danger daily to protect and serve. Split-second decisions must be made in order to safeguard peace, life, and property. My heart goes out to the Martinez family and I pray that God's love will comfort them during this difficult time. Words that my son lives by: "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and if that man falls, he shall be upheld by the hand of the Lord".

The world has lost a great man who was willing to do what few even attempt. And it is our great loss. Danny was a sweet kind man who loved his family, job, & all his friends unconditionally. I am so glad that in my journey through
life that our paths crossed and my life has been better for knowing Danny. My thoughts & prayers are with Alice, the children & Danny's mother, father, brother, sister and other family members. I am so sorry that tears have come your way. Trisha
