Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Officer Daniel C. Martinez

Danny, its been two months now since you left us. Officer Danny Baker attended the State Memorial last week and did an outstanding job reflecting on the past. You would have been so proud. It's so hard to see your name on the State Memorial wall and on the monument at FSPD. A plaque with your badge and photo is now sitting in the trophy cabinet at the front desk. Danny everyone here at FSPD think of you everyday and you will not be forgotten. Every night before going 10-8 I pull up the Officer Down Memorial page and think of the good times we had. You may be gone but your still 10-8 with me during my shift. Rest in peace brother and watch over everyone.

My heart goes out to the family of Officer Martinez. I retired before he went to work for FSPD. I wishI had known him, from the many reflections he has received, he was truly one of the best. May he rest in peace and watch over his family whom they will not forget.

I was just a little girl when I was first introduced to this family. My father, Lloyd and Danny Sr. were friends and thats how all my memories begin. But as time goes on you see less and less of your old pals and life still goes on. We still saw each other every once in awhile but not like we used too. Imagine my suprise when several yrs later I married a man and became a step-mom to go along with the 2 I had already. Well this son of mine now brings home this beautiful girl, Anna Martinez!!! I have known her all my life it seems along with Doug, Danny and Jessica. I am know Anna's mother-in-law and a member of the Martinez family because in our family when you marry one you marry us all. I don't have to sit here and tell them how much I love them or how sorry or how my heart breaks. They know. But to Danny I want to say we as a family knew you were a hero before you gave your life. And now we mourn your passing everyday. I am so blessed to be someone who got to love you and see you. We will be with you soon my hero. Until then, rest in Jesus arms and watch for us. And just to let you know Haley is still in love with you and Doug. I miss you and love you with all that I am.

Danny,

It's been a while since we moved out of the small town Shady Point. I remember the days Andy served with you and the fires that we went out on together. We were sad to go, but Andy felt called to go back into the line of duty as a soldier and there he is serving his second tour in Iraq and I'm living in Colorado. We think about you often and never expected to hear the tragic news of your death. I sit here waiting with Andy in harms way with the possiblity that the news of his death could be awaiting at my doorstep from 0600 to 2000 everyday, but being a family memeber of a hero as you are, is truly an honor so I hold my head up everyday and I am proud. My heart stopped for a moment when I heard of you and I cried like a baby for you. You are a good, good man and though your life was cut short, you did your work here on earth. Our prayers are with your family as I know you are watching over them. I stand behind what you stood for and what all law enforcers stand for. May you all make this world a better place. Now, you can stand in watch for each of them as they carry on your work. We love you Danny.

Your death has beacome so much of a reminder to us that put on the uniform as to what one person can and will do to another . There's no reason this should have happened but it did. We can't change that fact but we can train harder and be better prepared to face what's thrown at us every day. Because of your sacrifice our senses are heightened and we are that much more aware of what's going on at every call we respond to. For that I thank you.

I just learned of Danny's death from AMW. He deserved that caliber of recognition. Danny and I were roommates at CLEET. He was truly special.

After the academy, I bragged to my family and friends that I could not have picked a better roommate. He was considerate, funny, kind and helpful. Danny had more experience and confidence than I did. He helped me complete the academy. I have a video that my dad shot of he and I at the academy graduation that I would be proud to send to his family upon request.

To Danny's family: You have my heartfelt condolences and prayers.

To his Father & Family-
I don't know if you remember me; Chrissy, who lived next door to your Mom & Dad in Ventura. I haven't seen Danny since we were children and didn't even know he was my fellow brother in blue. I prayed that I would retire as a police officer that never had any personal relationship with a fallen brother's name on the national monument in D.C. I'm deeply sadened to know that will never be after the loss of Danny.

Please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers!

Thank you Danny for your ultimate sacrifice, may you rest in peace knowing that your family and friends will be forever taken care of by your surviving brothers and sisters in law enforcement across our great country.

Our prayers are with Danny's family and brother officers. Stay safe and well. Danny will live always in your memories.

I was raised in Keota and my mother lives in Panama. It was during one of my visits home in the summer of 1998 when I was introduced to Danny by a mutual friend of ours. From the first day I met Danny I knew he was someone who cared about life, family, people, and the job he was doing.

I was coming to Oklahoma to visit my mother on the 23rd of March and was honored to attend Danny's funeral.

Danny your tour of duty on earth is done but I know you are watching over us as we continue the fight.

Rest in Peace buddy and I will see you again in heaven.

To the family, you have my deepest sympathy, and are in all of my family's prayers. Good Bless and draw close to the Lord he will help with any need you have upon your request.

At one point in my life, I couldn't fathom that someone would be so gutless to kill another, let alone an officer. But there are people like that in this world, and it is sad. But if it weren't for those terrible people, we wouldn't have people like Danny, and other fallen officers.
I could never ever imagine getting a call and hearing that my father had been killed in the line of duty. My heart is broken knowing that his children will grow up without their father. His daughter's won't have him at their wedding to give them away.
I thank you Officer Martinez for your dedication to the people of Ft. Smith and Oklahoma. We have lost a great man, and a great officer. May you rest in peace. To the Officers, stay strong and stay safe.

On March 23, 2007, we lost Police Officer, Son, Father, Husband, and best friend to many, Daniel Martinez. With Officer Martinez’s passing, a part of each one of us has died with him. The bond between Police Officers is so great, that when one dies, we all die just a little inside. Officer Martinez was taken from us before most of us had a chance to get to know him well. But we did know him; he is each and every police officer who puts on a uniform, the badge and a gun and decides at that moment that he would give his life to save another. Officer Martinez paid the ultimate price and will forever be remembered to us all as a hero. On March 23, 2007, Officer Daniel Martinez became my 2007 Police Officer of the Year.

I will never forget the call at 1:20 am on March 24th, 2007 from my sister, "Danny has been shot". The sound of those four words are etched in my mind forever. I watched Danny grow from a child into man and knew from the begining that he was someone special. I lost more than a nephew, I lost a brother.
