Reflections for Police Officer Charles J. Callemyn

Officer Callemyn-
Though I did not have the privilige to have met you, I know a few of the guys you worked with. Every one of them says the same thing--"CJ is a 10-8 officer!!!" The men and women of DPD were fortunate to have had their backs covered by you while you were here. Now we are ALL fortunate to have you looking over all of us. We will do our best to continue your work.

Patrol Officer Adam Carlson

Policemen, firemen, military men and others in service to our community and our country are the heroes that our society needs to be the great country we are. The brightness of our lives dims when we lose one of these special people. The thing that warms us during this time is the bright star that now shines in the sky for Officer Callemyn. We need only to look up and know he has not left those he loved. He watches over you.

My heartfelt sympathies to his family and his friends. I have felt the pain of this kind of loss but I also know the joy you will always carry in your hearts having known this man.

God has not left you in this dark time. He is your strength and you will see the light shine again.

An Hoosier friend of one of his friends.

I can clearly remember that night when we stood next to each other talking. It was mostly about nothing but Laughed and joked about things that only friends could understand. It was a comfort to be in such good company. As I type this, a sorrow grows within me and my eyes tear up because I lost such a great friend. Many will never know what it was like to talk to Charles J Callemyn, but the few of us who did are proud to say, I once knew that man and he wsa what I wanted to be.

I am very saddened to hear of the death of such a fine young officer. This good man served North Carolina and the City of Du8rham proudly as he did in serving his Nation as a Soldier and Marine.

Officer Callemyn now stands a post in Heaven, as his final rollcall was held here on earth and he is now a member of St. Michael's platoon. Though we mourn his passing from this world, we also celebrate his life. I offer my sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of this good peace officer.

Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends (John 15:13). God speed brothers and sisters, be safe out there.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Officer Callemyn and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Officer Callemyn has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

To the family and friends of Officer Callemyn, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Officer Callemyn is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

To all family, friends, coworkers or Officer Callemyn:

I understand your pain and know that you have many people that have you in their prayers. I remember too well the pain of losing my officer in blue. I am here to give you strength to make it through each painful day. It does get easier. But let it out. You don't have to be strong for anyone. My prayers will be with everyone. God Bless you and remember that our Officers in Blue become Angels in Blue and will be watching over you.

Anytime another officer dies it is a sad day for all law enforcement. Our prayers go out for the department and his family. I did not know Officer Callemyn, but I know his sister and I work with her. I know this will be a hard time for her also. Again the law enforcement has lost a fallen hero that will not be forgotten.
