I did not know you as friend. I did not know you as partner. I only know you as brother. Rest now and be at peace.

My heart breaks for Officer Callemyn's family for I know all too well the road they began travelling on 2-17-07. His wife is especially in my prayers as she keeps his memory alive for their children. Stay close to those who support you and let the ones who won't try to understand answer to someone higher than us! Take one day at a time and do what you can for your children and don't worry about everything else. As impossible as it seems right now, things will eventually fall into place as you learn what your "normal after 2-17-07" is. You will continue to be in my prayers.

Charlie Buck!
I was so excite the day you were born! Then the chance to raise you was oh so awesome; from a babe; then a boy; then a young man, at last a wonderful son, brother, husband, outstanding father and friend to so many. I am so glad that you assured me of your faith in God the last few years as we spent hours talkings. I will forever miss your laugh, your hugs and your kiss each time we parted. My memories are full, because you lived each day to its best. Jamie, you and I will forever be the "3". May you find your place as a soldier in God's army now that he has taken you from your earthly assignment to His special assignment in Glory. I will miss you and wait to be joined with you when God brings us home at the mid-night cry when all the dead in Christ will rise to meet Him in the sky!

Love you my son,

Mom

I received a phone call today that saddened me. My friend Mike Brown called me to tell me of Callemyn's death. I knew Lance Corporal Callemyn while stationed at Marine Corps Security Force Company, Panama. Callemyn was both a good Marine and a good man. He will always be my brother. I'm sure he had the same impact on his brethren on the police force. Semper Fidelis, Callemyn. You'll always be remembered.

Officer Callemyn,
I would like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just for your community, but also for our Country when you served in the USMC and USAR and for your service in Afghanistan as well. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

My heart goes out to the family of this fallen officer. I
have family in the military and in law enforcement, and this is the situation that everyone dreads hearing of. I am deeply sorry for the loss, and my prayers are with the family and friends, as well as the officers who are left behind. May God bless each of you in your time of need.

Officer Charles J. Callemyn was a Duke Police Officer who was always on the go and yet a person who didn't mind helping you in the time of need. My fondest memories of him, were seeing him patrolling Duke University campus on his bike and chating with him in the ER. I am going to miss seeing his smile and laughing at his jokes. Although, I didn't work directly with him as an officer on the Duke or Durham Police force, to have known him as a friend was good enough for me.

CJ...
I think of you often on duty, knowing that you'll lead me to the wolf that forever preys cowardly in the darkness. Give me the strength to overcome in my hour of judgement...and know that one day, we shall meet again in the house of our lord.

Thank you brother, for all that you have done. Both on the streets and in the sand. You have laid you life on the line more than one time from what others speak of you. You sound like a friend of mine, I call "TOP" and there are few and far between men like you. Rest in peace my friend, may we meet on the golden streets you now patrol.

I first met Charles "Duke" Callemyn in Afghanistan in 2003. He was a bodyguard for a 2-star general, and we gave him the callsign "Duke", because of his police employment at the time. Duke was a highly professional close protection agent for Task Force 180, who placed himself in harm's way on numerous occasions to ensure the safety of the general and his fellow team members.

Duke always spoke affectionately of his family and friends back home; he was a dedicated and loving husband and father. He served his country in time of war, and served the public back home. He was a true patriot and a dedicated Soldier and Police Officer.

It breaks my heart to see him go, but he will never be forgotten. I will always speak very highly of Duke when I am telling my war stories. I will miss you Duke, and I know you left this earth doing what you were born to do; protect and serve. God Bless you and your family.

Very Respectfully,

Tom LeBrun (Outlaw-6)

Though I never knew him, he was part of my Law Enforcement family and I will mourn this deep loss the rest of my life. My heart aches with all the losses we have suffered, and continue to suffer, through the years. God is our only peace through such incidents. May the strength of that peace uphold & sustain all those who loved Officer Callemyn so deeply; and may they rest in the assurance that they will see him again one day.

Sgt Callemyn,
You were an outstanding soldier! A gentle, kind and considerate man. Your family and your community will mourn a great loss of an officer, husband & dad as well as a mentor. It was and honor to have known you during our tour in Afghanistan, as I know that God looks out of those whom have always looked out for others. Like "Doug" I will remind those whom I continue to serve with your legacy and contributions to our Outstanding "Fighting Force" May your family find peace during this challanging time.

B – Squad District 1
Callemyn, we have been missing you since that cold Saturday morning, February 17, 2007. It has been one week, today. I cried as I rode on Highway 70 E. over Holloway St., Thursday, I was thinking of you and that ill-fated accident.
I have been with our squad for eight months. Every call we had responded to, together, you had always made me feel safe and protected from harm. Your presence was a force to be reckoned with.
The last conversation we had together, we made each other laugh, I am thankful for those moments.
May God continue to be with your family during these difficult times.
Callemyn, you are truly missed!
