Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Harold Michael Altman

This has to be the worst tragedy that I have ever read on this site. Absolutely horrible and shocking. The only ray of light is that these killers received swift justice. I've always known that police work is dangerous, but this brutal premeditated attack regrettably takes it to an even higher level of risk. Please accept my sincere condolences.

There are no words that will fill the void or ease the pain. Officer Altman was one of the select few, a law enforcement officer, a hero. May his family find comfort and pride in the selfless way in which he was taken from them. My son is a deputy sheriff and I can not imagine the grief and pain that Deputy Altman's family is going through.

God bless.

I did not know Dep. Altman but when tragedy strikes close to home it makes you sit back and wonder if you've done everything you need to before you go on shift. That last "I love you" to your family and take a few moments to spend with them. I am thankful for Dep. Altman's service and sacrifice and am sorry for his family as well as his friends.

Mike, I didn't know you that well. I had only met you once brieftly a few weeks before your watch ended, yet I felt that same rage, and pain when I found out what had happened that terrible night. You were one of us. You were our brother, and you deserved more than to go down at the hands of a sick, twisted individual, However I am proud of you. Your actions exemptlified the qualities of Honor, and Bravery. You put the life of another ahead of yours, and paid the ultimate price. You did what we have all sworn to do, You held the line. There is no higher praise that can be said of any officer. We're still holding that same line.
Rest in peace. You earned it.

In The Line Of Duty, Deputy Sheriff Harold Michael Altman lost his life.

A wife lost a husband.
A child lost a father.
A mother lost a son.

Many people ask, "Is there ever justice in tragedy? Justice can not raise a child and show that child love, it can not comfort a wife and heal her wounded heart. It can not give a mother back her child."

But there is a justice beyond our understanding and every man must pay the price for his deeds. For there is a Higher Witness to our deeds and that Witness sees through the eyes of truth. That Witness holds in its hand the power of Righteousness. This deed shall be weighed and the scales will be balanced. Know this and be at peace.

God be with your family and grant them peace.

To Deputy Altman, I'm sure you have already heard the words, "well done my good and faithful servant", enjoy your rest we will continue with the same bravery you so valiantly demonstrated. To his comrads left behind, the agonizing questions of; why him, what could I have done, if I had been there, these will never be answered in this life. Carry on and purpose to serve, protect, and defend.

This tragic, senseless, despicable, horrible act of raging violence is beyond comprehension. We grieve in shock for and with the families of both Deputy Altman and Sheriff McDaniel. We ask God's blessings and comfort for you.

We cannot but feel grateful that the cowardly killers will face their justice in the afterlife.

May God bless the sacrifice of Deputy Altman, and bless those who respond to calls, knowing what violence they may encounter. Deputy Altman, you will not be forgotten. Rest in peace, sir.

"Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13

It goes beyond "love for friends" with Law Enforcement Officers- it is the allegience to his oath to protect and serve...at any cost. Deputy Altman rushed into danger when most people would run. He is welcomed into an even higher brothership now by those heroes who have gone before him. Rest in deserved peace Deputy Altman.
