Mike, Thank you for your dedication and loyalty as a Law Enforcement Officer and the price you paid on January 30, 2007 doing what you love to do. I know we have talked while working off-duty details or just talking on the Nextel Link, most of the time just cutting up and laughing, and it is your friendship I will always treasure. The memories of you wanting me to fly with you are still fresh in my mind however, you and I both are big 'ole boys, and both of us in that little plane would surely have pushed it to the weight limit. I think I'll stay on the ground, but thanks for the invites though. Your watch on Earth is over, you will never be forgotten. Rest my brother, for you laid your life down for others. I will always love you, my brother. God bless your family. God Bless Sheriff McDaniel and Miss Mellie's family. You and Miss Mellie are, and will be, sorely missed. (Put in a good word for me upstairs) Thanks for the humor, I know you would appreciate that!

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

I am so sorry to hear of such a tragedy. It is the fear of all police officers with a family. I am so glad that the other officers got there in time to get those miserable excuses for human beings. Deputy Sheriff Mike was a Hero in life and so he will be in Heaven. I will be praying for both Mike's and his wives family. Rest in Peace my brother and sister.

Mike, I will miss you, its hard to put into words what I am feeling. I always want to remember the laughs we had, the times we spent just talking. You would often tell me you wanted me to fly with you, but you were afraid the plane wouldn't get off the ground with me in it. Mike, you are the finest and bravest men I ever knew or will ever meet, no one will ever be your equal. God Bless you and your family. You have the watch in heaven, we have your watch here on earth. Walk with God my Brother, for the streets are paved in gold. We Love You Mike.
