Reflections for Police Officer Tyron Donta Franklin

My deepest sympathy for all the Officers of the Paterson Police Department at this time. I was born in the city, but moved out at the tender age of five. I have many fond memories of living my early life in the town. God bless and keep his family and the entire Police Department in this very unhappy time.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends and co-workers of Officer Franklin. I know his son will learn about the kind of man his father was, a true hero he can always be proud of. Rest in peace brother.

Police Officer Tyron Franklin you and your family will be in my prayers forever. You were my brother in blue and I love you and your soul for that. May you rest in peace.

The Police Officer stood and faced his God,
Which for all must come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass
"Step forward now, officer. How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulders and sighed,
"No Lord I, I'll be straight,
Those of use who carry a badge
Can't always be a saint."
I've had to work most Sundays
And I'm sorry I kept silent,
And sometimes I've been a little tough,
Because the streets are awfully violent.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep.
And I tried to keep my ethics clean,
Walking the sewer of the street.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Just because I shook with fear,
And please, God forgive me,
I've wept so many tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around before,
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me, Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much, but if you don't... I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
And the Officer waited quietly
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer.
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets.
You've done your time in Hell."

Officer Franklin, in those moments at that restaurant, people saw both the worst and best humanity has to offer. You and the citizen who tried to come to your aid being the best, your murderer, who viciously shot you again once you were down being the worst. I cannot damn him enough.

Your career with the Paterson PD was brief and the city and Police Department will never truly know what you could have contributed, but I would bet even in such a short time, your colleagues knew the kind of man you were and the kind of cop you would become.

Your son will grow up and you'll be there to guide him along the way. He will hear of you from family and friends and will feel you there beside him when he most needs you. I have no doubt of that.

God Bless and may you Rest in Peace, Brother.

I am very saddened to hear of the senseless and brutal execution of this fine young officer. His passing is a tragic event, a bright life and career cut short by a cowardly assasin. Though your time was brief in law enforcement brother, we measure the success of a man of your caliber not by length of service but by the nature of service and you were a true hero. You will be missed. I pray for this fine peace officer's family, friends and collegaues. He now walks a beat in Heaven's district for St. Michael. No matter our age, religion, gender, skin color or the patch on our uniforms, we are all brothers and sisters of the badge and I am always sickened to lose a member of my extended familiy, especially so senselessly. God bless and be safe out there brothers and sisters.
