Dear Bro,

I wish you were here so I could give you a big birthday hug (and share a beverage of choice) but I guess I will give big hugs and kisses to your boys in your memory. I have the pleasure of seeing the boys a lot and am very thankful for that. Dawn is doing a GREAT job raising them. I know that you are proud. I will certainly take them to your preserve now that it has been officially dedicated as the David Rancourt River Preserve. I think of you daily and as I promised before I will take care of your family forever. Happy Birthday

Love,

Hey Buddy,

Well your memory lives on as a residence hall is dedicated to you today at CMCC. It has been an eventful week. Brock turned 1 on the 14th and took his first steps yesterday. It was absolutely amazing. Jeromey made you a beautiful card for fathers day saying how much he loves and misses you. We all do. Please continue to watch over us and keep us safe.

We love buddy,
Dawn, Jeromey and Brock

Condolences to your family, Deputy Rancourt. I know that today, on Father's Day, as to I, they will especially miss your presence as I do with my dad. May your service and dedication never be forgotten.

Deputy Rancourt, Heartfelt sympathy to your Family, Friends and Police Family. Your messages on this site state that you have so many accomplishments that among other things...will help mold your children into fine young men. What a great Officer you must have been. R.I.P.

Hey buddy,

Well your best pal turned 9 years old last week. Its hard to believe that he was 7 when you left us. He is growing into such a little man taking great care of his little brother and helping mom out when he can. Being a challenge is what he is good at though after all he is still just a little boy. Please continue to watch over and guide him as he grows and hopefully follows in the large footprints you left behind.

We love you and miss you always

POLICE OFFICER
PHILA PA

February 20, 2008

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Dave,

Another fair season has gone and another approaches. You would be proud of how you have been honored by those who considered you one of the chosen few, among the most bravest. I have been highered by your department now to serve as you once did faithfully, as I walk the halls of the courthouse I will think of when you once walked and how I wish we could do it together.

Always a track crew member for life Dave. Miss you buddy.

I can't believe your gone. I really do not know what to say. It has distressed me since that day you passed. I remember a day during a drill weekend in '06 where it was just me or you reflecting on the accomplishments of your soldiers actions in Iraq. We were laughing awestruck at the same time. We were simply expressing joy of warriors that had gone to war and theghter derived from how these soldiers expressed these events. These soldiers were Dave's soldiers. Not only as a 1SGT in Iraq but also as there PLT SGT. He deeply cared for his soldiers and that's why there was laughter. Dave had trained/advised these soldiers. He was proud that they had succeeded in such difficult situations. I want to state another point about Dave. I was in the 619th for sometime. In 2006, Dave contacted me saying that he had a 619th War on Terrorism coin that he had set aside for me and other past members of the 619th. After several failed attempts to meet up. he handed me the coin. I have never been so humble and proud. I want you to know Dawn that I deeply respect Dave and the 619th. I miss you daily Dave.

Well buddy,

One year has passed and it seems like just yesterday you gave me that kiss goodbye followed by my typical finger wagging "be careful" and "I love you". I look back over the last year and all the years before and have only one regret that I wasn't there to hold your hand went you bid your final farewell. The consolation I have to that one regret is that you always knew what I thought and how I felt and that I got to say that last "I love you". Thank you for my wonderful boys they keep me strong just like you use to. Our time together was short but full of the best memories anyone could ever have.

I love you and miss you everyday. Keep watching over me someone needs to keep me in line.

I just read every reflection left for you and I am deeply
moved with admiration and respect for the man you
became. You so courageously made it thru 2 tours in
Iraq only to lose your life 7 months before your baby was born. My granddaughter was born the same day as your son. It makes me sad you can't be there to
raise him. Everyone speaks so highly of you and your
loss is truly devastating. You lived with such integrity
and kindness, I know you will never be forgotten. May
all the goodness you showed to others come back to
you 10 fold. You are one of a kind.

A year has passed since you were taken away to soon from us. You are in my thoughts constantly whenever a question of right or wrong comes up. May we all live our lives to a fraction of the life you lived.

On the first anniversary of Deputy Rancourt's death, we honored his service in our patrol briefing by reading his entry from ODMP. Each day, we honor one fallen officer on the anniversary of their death so as to keep them in our thoughts, and also to remind us of the dangers inherent in our job. Deputy Rancourt is not forgotten.

Deputy Rancourt,
Today is the one year anniversary since you were called home. Reading through your reflections, I can see you are a loving husband, father, and friend. Average citizens thank you for the sacrifice you made, and for the profound difference you made in the world. May your legacy of committment and dedication live on through your sons. Thank you, sir.

"Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die."

A year has passed and not a day goes by that you do not cross my mind. Miss you more than words!

Dave,
It will be a year this weekend since you passed. It has been a long year. I want to thank you for making such a wonerful impression on the life's of the other deputy's and officers that you served with. The reality that life is not everlasting here on earth became evident last year. Your passing has made everyone take a step back and be thankful for all of the things that they have. Dawn is a very strong woman and she and the kids are doing okay. Your memory will always live on and I thank you for watching over your brother's in blue.

Good Morning David J

As you already know your family is now complete. Two absolutely beautiful boys (I thank you so much for the best gifts you ever could have given me). Although I wish you were here with us to hold Brock and to play with Jeromey, I know that God has a more important plan for you. We visit you often and Jeromey talks of you all the time. I know that TIME will make things easier but there are days that I just don't see it. Some how you manage to take care of us even though you aren't here, please watch over our wonderful boys and take care of them and help me to continue to have the strength and patience I will need with both of these young men. Even though I get caught up in our (Jeromey's) very busy daily lives I hope you know that I am always thinking of you and miss you so much. Say hi to all your new neighbors for us, Billy Bissette, Sonny Pomerleau, Norm Aube and all the other dear friends who have followed you.

We miss you and love you always

Dave...

Despite the time that has passed “Dave…” is still just about all I can muster to say. The gang misses you and we are all so thankful we had the time with you that we did. The stories of memories could and do go on for hours. Hunting will be difficult this year as I was in the woods when I got the word, a place we use to enjoy together. I’ll be out there this year; rest assure when my feet cause the sound of fresh frost giving way under my feet I’ll be looking to the sky thinking of you. Speaking of which, while you’re up there say hi to Dad for me, don’t you two get into too much trouble. And, tell him instead of waiting for me/us to get out of the woods that I know you two will be with me every step of the way.

Dave

I know I should have said it sooner but THANKS for all of things you did for me in the Army and to help me become the officer I always wanted to be. If it hadn't been for you I don't think I would have been able to do it on my own. So again thanks and rest in peace.
