Reflections for Deputy Sheriff David Jerome Rancourt

Few people have the opportunity to be blessed with knowing someone as genuine, selfless, approachable, and compassionate. For those you have touched, you have set an example few can live up to- but may will aspire for. Your quick humour, hearfelt sincerity, and integrety will always remain with us. You truly were one of the good ones, and this world is a little darker without your light. R.I.P.

David, I have read all these wonderful things people have written about you. There is not one of them that I could disagree with. There are very few people I have met in my life that well leave the ever lasting impression that you have. There are no words to describe the loss your family, friends, The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department and the entire world of law enforcement has suffered. I still have not convinced myself its real. You were a big part of all of our lives, a great Deputy, a great dad, a great husband and the best friend anyone could ever ask for.

R.I.P. my friend, you will never be forgotten. We will look after your family and do our best to make them part of ours.

It is so hard to believe that you are gone. I truely learned how much you meant to so many people when I made those dreaded calls on saturday announcing your death to your fellow brothers.

You were always willing to come to dispatch and get us what we needed. You were not to proud to sit down and eat with us and give us advice and share laughter.

It was always a pleasure to see you and Jeremy come to work on your days off. He was so proud of you.

May you rest in peace. Your leagacy will live for eternity. God Bless!

Survivors,

The hurt is deep and the road is long but onward it goes.

I struggle for some words of comfort, of peace, of help for you in your time of loss . . . but they don't come. They fail because there are no words which can make it better or make it go away.

I can only say that my heart and prayers are with you at this time and that we share the loss with you.

I hope this will be some comfort to you.

The Lord Will Comfort You

Blessed are they that mourn: For they shall be comforted,

God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.

He heals the broken in heart, And binds up their wounds.

Cast your burden upon the Lord, And he shall sustain you.

Trust in Him at all times, Pour out your heart before him.

Let not your heart be troubled, Neither let it be afraid.

For God so loved the world, That He gave His only begotten Son, That whoever believes in Him Should not perish, But have eternal life.

Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
The Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforts us in all our tribulation, That we may be able to comfort them Which are in any trouble, By the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don't let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful. John 14:27

My heartfelt condolences go out to Deputy Rancourt's family and the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office. I used to live in Maine, but did not know Deputy Rancourt personally. I do know that he must have been an exceptional man to have gone and fought to protect his country and then came home to serve and protect the citizens where he lived.

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God." Mathew 5:9.

Dave,

Those of us who had the opportunity to know you are better off today because of you. Many people who were not fortunate enough to know you have asked me what type person you were. I tell them to think of the kindest person they've ever known....and then tell them that's the type of person Dave was. You were highly regarded by all of us here at APD as not only a fellow officer but a friend, father and husband. Dawn is very a strong woman...though there will be times that she'll be overwhelmed with grief she'll find strength through her thoughts of you and eyes of your children. Rest easy knowing that your brothers and sisters will always look after your family. You will be greatly missed but NEVER forgotten.

Dave was the one who took care of the 619th TC in Iraq, when Capt. Love ran out on us. Dave was a buddy, a pal and someone who was looked up to by all. Dave will be always remembered by the 619th TC as one who loved to have others count sideboards in the rain or shine, snow storm and/or sand storm. Dave was not only a leader but OUR HERO.

To the Rancourt family:
You all have been through so much and Dave's life was too short. He was a wonderful father and husband. Your son is the only 8 yo that I know that uses ten codes when he would talk to his father over walkie-talkies. You will be missed and never forgotten.
