Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Margena Silvia Nunez

Margena,

I'm honored to have had the chance to work with you. I only wish you hadn't gone so soon. Little did I know that in roll call that Saturday night would be the last time we would we ever talk. You will be greatly missed, now go rest in peace, LE953.

Deputy Louis D. Scowden
Lee County Sheriff's Office (East Patrol)

Margena,

I am a better person for knowing you. You showed me how to smile, even if I didn't feel like smiling. You had a way of brightening a room when you walked in.

I'll miss seeing you at the Core building and brightening everyone's day.

I didn't realize a few months ago when I shared a lunch table with you that this would be the last time I would see you. I know you'll be watching us from Heaven, but, you will truly be missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with your beautiful family.

Rest in peace.

Road Crew Officer Lee County

Deputy Nunez,
I am honored to have known you. I remember a traffic crash we were both dispatched to near the end of my shift one hot summer afternoon. You arrived first. Upon my arrival you said with a smile "I got it (worked). Go be with your daughter". May God smile upon you in heaven and bless your family.

Don't stand in my grave and weep
For I'm not there, I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamonds glint on snow
I am the gentle autumn's rain

When you awaken in morning's hush
i am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circle flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there, I did not die

Dear Margena,
I will always be grateful for the blessing of having known you. Your special, warm, loving, and compassionate nature were a gift to all. Your family meant the world to you.
Doing the right thing was always so important to you. I remember the night you were struggling with the decision of allowing your little girl to have her ears pierced. I can see the twinkle in your eye when you talked about your family and your visits to Jamaica.

I especially recall how joyful you looked the day you graduated from the cross-over. I'm so glad I went to share that day with you. Little did I know that the day we hugged at Ross, a few short months ago, would be the last time I would have that priviledge.

Thank you for the light you brought to the world. You loved the Lord so, and talked often about your devotion to Him. I have no doubt that you are reaping the rewards for all you gave. My thoughts and prayers are with your children, your family, and your wonderful "brothers and sisters" at LCSO.

My son Steve is a Lee County Florida Deputy Sheriff. I think my message is to this young womans mother. I know how hard it is to lose a child. Your daughter was in a noble profession and served with pride. I am sure she was proud of her service to Lee County and the people there. Our sons and daughters are out there facing new trials every day. I have no doubt that God saw her and knew what a special person she was. So now she is a special person in Heaven. Oh what a wonderful place to be. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Hold on to Gods hand and you will see Margenas love shining down on you. Love in friendship, Linda

Margena,

You were a wonderful person. Your smile was infectious. It is the thing I will remember the most. Whether you were happy, sad, worried, or nervous, you still smiled. As I sat and watched over your family yesterday I could only think about how much you are loved and will be missed.
My prayers are with your family. As we lay you to rest tomorrow, I know that it will be difficult for your family, both of them. You were a partner, a friend, and our sister. Rest in peace 953. God bless you and I will see you in heaven!

I feel so blessed to have you cross my path of life. I do not cry to bring sadness, yet to remember you. I remember when you started at the CPU's on nights, it was always like a ray of sunshine to walk in on Med Pass & see your face, even though it was dark outside. Then you came to the Core Building, & even though the corridors' are kind of drab, I can still hear you in your unmistakable voice saying "Good Morning" down the hall to lighten the day up. It is so much more difficult when things hit this close to home. Your family is in my thoughts. You are missed. Gone but not forgotten.

Deputy Nunez -

I lost a friend of mine earlier this year in the same tragic fashion as we have now lost you. Words cannot express the sorrow that I feel for your family in the wake of your sudden departure. Please know that those of us still here will carry on with our duties, knowing full well that you are up there watching down on us. Please help us to carry on as you would have and make us stronger so that we may hold true to the people you gave your life to protect.

On behalf of all the agents at ABT, god speed sister - may you rest in peace.

My deepest sympathy to the family, friends and co-workers of D/S Nunez. Hearing of her tragic death at the hands of an impaired driver reminded me once again to say thanks to all the law enforcement officers who are out on the road night & day trying to stop this 100% preventable crime. God bless you all.

Margena,
I remember working out with you in the evenings in the gym at 10-19 when we were both preparing ourselves for the road. We would spend a whole 15 minutes on the treadmill and call it a day! I was happy to see your smiling face when I walked into the substation, knowing we were both assigned to east district. We sat there and joked on how uncomfortable our vests were. You have a heart of gold Margena, thats probably why God decided to take you, so we can have an angel watching over us. Thank your for laughs.....Rest in Peace my sister, I will miss you.
