Mike

I never met you, but have seen you while I was on duty driving in our city. I have heard a lot about you from friends of mine from the department, and sounds like you were a great person and police officer. You have walked the streets in hell, and now you walk the streets in heaven. God Bless your family, and keep an eye on your brothers and sisters in Law Enforcement from above.

Our sympathies to the Scarbrough Family and the Wayne County Airport Authority Police Dept. We know what you feel because we lost a Warrant Officer on 3-19-04, killed in the line of duty while serving a warrant. When someone this young is taken away from us at such an early age I think of Dorothea Barwick's poem "God's Heavenly Garden":

Sometimes God picks the flower
That is still in full bloom;
Sometime, the rosebud's chosen
That we feel He's picked too soon.
Sometimes, the flower is fading
With petals floating down,
But God knows the perfect time
To gather flowers from the ground.
There is a heavenly garden
In which God takes great pleasure
Because He's placed within it
The loved ones that we treasure.
He walks among the blossoms
Giving them eternal rest,
And I know that it must please Him
Because he chose our very best.

Rest in Peace, Officer in Blue.

Rest in peace brother...Job Well done

February 19, 2005

The tragedy that took place on Feb 09, 2005 will forever be in the hearts and minds of all Law Enforcement Officers. Sergeant Michael Scarbrough was a hero before this incident occurred and will be a hero long after we are gone. Believe that in the face of danger, he will be standing with us all. I believe that anyone who puts on a green, blue, brown or any other color uniform to Enforce Law and Order, is a Hero in life and in death. This incident has made the botherhood even stronger throughout. Rest In Peace Brother!

MAY GOD KEEP AND BLESS THE SCARBROUGH FAMILY DURING THIS TIME.

Although I had not known Mike for very long, in the short time I did know him and the few talks we had while watching our kids at school functions I found him to be a very personable individual and a caring father and husband. If the Lord had not taken him so soon I feel we would have become close friends as Mike possessed a love of his job and family I have not seen in others in a very long time.
Rest peacefully Mike, we got your back.

Dear Mike,

I've tried to describe you to my friends and co-workers as I reflect on time spent with you. The best way I could do this, was to tell everyone the things you left behind...to live on within everyone you touched. You've had that effect on everyone you came into contact with, myself included.

I can remember Brian talking of you when ever he had the chance...seeing his PRIDE that radiated from him when he spoke of things he admired about you, and how he looks up to his older brother Mike.

How you are Bridgets older brother, the one she never had, and how she RESPECTS all of the advice and leadership that you provided her.

You are the perfect MENTOR to 3 wonderful children...even now. And you have left ALL of your amazing traits inside them to emulate throughout their lives...and their children after them. You've created a legacy through life, and you can look down with so much pride and know that it was you and Denise that planted and groomed this everlasting LOVE within your family.

And finally Mike, you have earned through your life experiences, and your DEDICATION to service to this nation the admiration and respect of every military member that wears the uniform. I speak for all of these members in saying that "We salute you...in life...and in death. Your legacy will live on within every one of us as well. Those who know you, and those who never had that pleasure. For you've left within me the same PRIDE, RESPECT, MENTORSHIP, LOVE and DEDICATION that you left with so many others.

I thank you for every minute you shared with me Mike.

Until we meet again...

~ Kirt
