Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Michael Allen Scarbrough

Many days of our lives come and go. But what I saw here today, will live within my families "HEART" forever. Mike did it all, and most importantly, as we all seen, he touched upon many HEARTS!! Showing his love daily for, family, co-workers and friends. Mike, you will truly be missed, but the memories you have left all with, will indeed live on forever. Denise, Kelsey, Josh and Mark, we love you, and may God be with all of you during this most difficult time.

So you don’t like the ticket I just gave you.
Well, come take a ride with me.
A trip to the scene of an accident.
Where a person now struggles for freedom, and for life.
All because someone was in a hurry, or late for work.

You say you didn’t call me and you don’t need my help.
That this is a family matter and none of my business.
Come take a ride with me.
Where a child now cowers in the nearest corner, or bedroom closet.
They cover their ears and ask god “ please make them stop”.
Still think no one needs my help.

You’ve said all we do is eat donuts and drink coffee.
Come take a ride with me.
On the countless days after taking four calls in an hour.
We think we have time to sit down for dinner.
Only to be call away again.

You think we’re cold and have no heart.
Well, come take a ride with me.
To a place where the pipes now lay to rest.
A brother or sister who gave their life, for someone like you.
A place where tears fall like rain for their family,
For our family, and yes even for you.
Yeah, come take a ride with me.

I salute you for your service and honor you for your sacrifice.

A hero never dies....

Rest in peace, hero. God bless.

An officer

February 15, 2005

The Officer's stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
They hoped their shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as their brass.

"Step forward now, Officers.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The men squared their shoulders and
The Policeman spoke first
"No, Lord, I guess We ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

We've had to work most Sundays,
and at times our talk was rough,
and sometimes we've been violent,
Because the streets are tough.

The Corrections Officer then added,
But we never took a penny,
That wasn't ours to keep...
Though we worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And we never passed a cry for help,
Though at times we shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive us,
We've wept unmanly tears.

Together they say,
We know We don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted us around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for us here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
We never expected or had too much,
But if you don't...We'll understand.

There was silence around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the Officers waited quietly,
For the judgment of their God.

"Step forward now, Officers,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Back when I was a child,
before life removed all the innocence
My father would lift me high and dance
with my mother and me and then
Spin me around until I fell asleep
Then up the stairs he would carry me
And I knew for sure I was loved

If I could get another chance,
another walk, another dance with him
I'd play a song that would never, ever end
How I'd love, love, love
To dance with my father again

When I and my mother would disagree
To get my way, I would run from her to him
He'd make me laugh just to comfort me
Then finally make me do just
what my mama said
Later that night when I was asleep
He left a dollar under my sheet
Never dreamed that he would
be gone from me

If I could steal one final glance,
One final step, one final dance with him
I'd play a song that would never, ever end
'Cause I'd love, love, love
To dance with my father again

Sometimes I'd listen outside her door
And I'd hear how my mother cried for him
I pray for her even more than me
I pray for her even more than me
I know I'm praying for much too much
But could you send back the only
man she loved

I know you don't do it usually
But dear Lord she's dying
To dance with my father again
Every night I fall asleep and
this is all I ever dream

~~~To those I Love and Those Who Love Me~~~
When I am gone, release me, Let me go
I have so many things to see and do.
You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears,
Be happy that we had so many years.
I gave you my love, you can only guess
How much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown,
But now it's time I traveled alone.
So grieve a while if indeed you must
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It's only for a while that we must part
So bless the memories within your heart,
I won't be far away, for life goes on
So if you need me, call and I will come
Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near
And if you listen with your heart, you'll
Hear all of my love around you soft and clear
And when you must come this way alone,
I'll greet you with a smile and say,
"Welcome Home"
Love, respect, pride, courage, kindness, responsibility, strength, humor, affection, determination, loyalty, compassion, generosity. These are the true characteristics of the man who was my husband, my childrens' father, your co-worker and friend. It is overwhelming how respected and loved my husband was. My family feels embraced with support and kindness by his family in blue. I pray that you realize how loved you all were by Michael. My gratitiude can never be expressed.
Mike
I knew you from the first year of your career, you were so proud of your wife, you made us watch your wedding video 20 times, then your daughter was born the light of your life and the ultra sound picture of the twins sat in front of the consol til they were born, you were so proud of your family, I was so proud of the officer/mentor you had become. You and Mark were in that spot at that moment for a reason, I'm thinking the lord needed a right hand man.....he picked the best. I know you'll get everything in order for us up there, your dad and you can hang out and laugh at us while your waiting.
I'm sorry you had to leave so soon but it was an honor to know you, rest in peace brother.
Mike, (A friend and co-worker)
As both an Officer and Command Officer, you were respected by all. You always set an example for those to follow. There was never a task that you could not accomplish. Dedicated, professional, fair and sincere are just a few words to describe you. Also, let us not forget the prankster in you.
You took an oath to serve and protect. You did this above and beyond the call of duty. You now have a new assignment, to protect those you left behind; your family and your fellow Officers. Without a doubt, I know you'll also accomplish this task.
It was an honor to work with you.
My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family!
Upon the markers of their graves
Our heroes etched in names we save
For all the life they gave with pride
To keep the peace within life's stride
To honor serve and do their best
To keep us safe through any quest
They gave up what was theirs to share
Their spirits shall be always near
No fear within the hearts and minds
To keep us safe within our times
The glory that is ours to see
Those special hearts of bravery
They have walked where no man dare
Their lives in danger with no care
For they have given all they could
For their courage we have stood
In awe of every one who gave
His life for others who they saved
So we will know their contribution
Their firm resolve and resolution
For those they left with hearts so broken
In every whispered word that's spoken
We bow our heads in confirmation
In every word life's revelation
Those who stand within their shoes
Will follow courage as they choose
And give to all the best they had
They carry on with spirits glad
We will know that they walked through
With colors bright and hearts so true
No Island stands alone they say
For heroes they are born this way
Protecting those with loyalty
A glimpse of so much royalty
Within the years of courage bound
These officers have earned their crown
Upon the earth we shall remember
The special goals and all their thunder
That proves a hero came our way
Who left their hearts on earth to stay.
God Bless sir
February 13, 2005
when somebody dies, a cloud turns into an an angel, and flies up to tell God to put another flower on a pillow.
A bird gives the message back to
the world, and sings a silent prayer
that makes the rain cry. People dis-
appear, but they never really go away.
The spirits up there put the sun to
bed, wake up grass, and spin the
earth in dizzy circles. Sometimes you can see them dancing in a cloud during the day-time, when they're supposed to be sleeping. They paint the rain-bows and also the sunsets and make waves splash and tug at the tide.
They toss shooting stars and listen to
wishes. And when they sing wind-
songs, they whisper to us, don't
miss me too much. The view is nice
and I'm doing just fine.
