The "Undefended Victim"

For me, no gavel, hammers
The Scales were never weighted.
My crime was that of a victim,
My life, was the price I paid.

And when my life was taken,
Why weren't my rights read?
And the statement, "overruled"
When they pronounced me dead?

I'll never hear my rights
Nor take the witness stand,
No attorney to defend me,
My fate was in a killer's hand.

Now the courtroom's crowded
As the defendant pleads the case.
With just the glimmer of a tear,
Cold eyes on a straight face.

But oh, that I could take the stand
If they could witness my last breath,
Could they live with the terror
That I went through in death.

If they could hear my pleading cries
And see the hatred in that face,
At last, we'd know, the scales had
"Been balanced" in this case.

If I could, I'd tell the jury
Exactly how it was,
The fear and pain that I went through
Struck down without a cause.

Did the jury carefully weigh it all
As they listened to the plea?
There were no emotions, howing now,
Just the hope of going free.

The final verdict now is in
As the defendant stands in tears
If only I had done as well....
Given ten to twenty years.

“When God made Peace Officers….”

When the lord was creating Peace Officers, he was into his sixth day of overtime when an angel appeared and said, “You’re doing a lot of fiddling around on this one.”

And the Lord said, Have you read the spec on this order? A Peace Officer has to be able to run five miles through alleys in the dark, scale walls, enter homes the health inspector wouldn’t touch, and not wrinkle their uniform.

They have to be able to sit in an undercover car all day on a stakeout, cover a homicide scene that night, canvass the neighborhood for witnesses, and testify in court the next day.

They have to be in top physical condition at all times, running on black coffee and half- eaten meals. And they have to have six pairs of hands.

The angel shook her head slowly and said, “Six pairs of hands….No Way.”

“It’s not the hands that are causing me the problems,” said the Lord, “It’s the three pairs of eyes an officer has to have.”

That’s on the standard model? asked the angel.

The Lord nodded. One pair that sees through a bulge in a pocket before he asks, “May I see what’s in there sir?” (When they already know and wishes they had taken that accounting job.) Another pair here in the side of their head for their partners’ safety. And another pair of eyes here in front that can look reassuringly at a bleeding victim and say, “ You’ll be alright ma’am, when they know it isn’t so.”

“Lord,” said the angel, touching his sleeve,” rest and work tomorrow.”

“I can’t,” said the Lord, “I already have a model that can talk a 250 pound drunk into a patrol car without incident and feed a family of five on civil service paycheck.”

The angel circled the model of the Peace Officer very slowly, “Can it think?” she asked.

“You bet,” said the Lord, “It can tell you elements of a hundred crimes, recite Miranda warnings in it’s sleep; detain, investigate, search, and arrest a gang member on the street in less time than it takes five judges to debate the legality of the stop…and still it keeps it’s sense of humor.

This officer also has phenomenal personal control. They can deal with crime scenes painted in HELL, coax a confession from a child abuser, comfort a murder victim’s family’ and then read in the daily paper how Law Enforcement isn’t sensitive to the rights of criminal suspects.

Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek of the Peace Officer. “There’s a leak,” she pronounced. “I told you that you were trying to put too much into this model.”

“That’s not a leak,” said the Lord, “It’s a tear.”

“What’s the tear for?” asked the angel.

“It’s for bottled-up emotions, for fallen comrades, for commitment to that funny piece of cloth called the American flag, and for justice.”

“You’re a genius,” said the angel.

The Lord looked sober. “I didn’t put it there,” he said.

It has always saddened me when a brother or sister falls at the hands of a citizen. Our country cries out injustice when a soldier falls in conflict. However when an officer falls it is part of the job.We who have walked the walk and are still doing so salute the fallen brother and his family for the ultimate sacrifice paid on that dark and lonely road.

Deputy Winfield, I never have met you and its saddens me to see yet again another officer perish at the hands of another person. I have been in Law Enforcement for 17 yrs now and and I am sicken by all of the budget cuts that have taken place across America and here with my own Department. I can only pray that you, sir were not working in you county short handed. We leave home every day and we pray silently that we may return home when we have finish our tour of duty for the day. Its not easy what we do. We wont get rich doing this job, and over the years I have asked many a new rookie why they choose to be in Law Enforcement? The answer is always the same, like me when I too was a rookie....We want to try and make, at least our little part of the world, a much safer place for all to live in safety and without fear. in short we care.

God bless you sir, you have done well and you will never be forgotten....

Please Lord Just One More

Dance With My Father"
Happy Sweetest Dad Daddy
You are safe Now:

Back when I was a child, before life removed all the innocence
My father would lift me high and dance with my mother and me and then
Spin me around until I fell asleep
Then up the stairs he would carry me
And I knew for sure I was loved
If I could get another chance, another walk, another dance with him
I'd play a song that would never, ever end
How I'd love, love, love
To dance with my father again
When I and my mother would disagree
To get my way, I would run from her to him
He'd make me laugh just to comfort me
Then finally make me do just what my mama said
Later that night when I was asleep
He left a dollar under my sheet
Never dreamed that he would be gone from me
If I could steal one final glance, one final step, one final dance with him
I'd play a song that would never, ever end
'Cause I'd love, love, love
To dance with my father again
Sometimes I'd listen outside her door
And I'd hear how my mother cried for him
I pray for her even more than me
I know I'm praying for much too much
But could you send back the only man she loved
I know you don't do it usually
But dear Lord she's dying
To dance with my father again
Every night I fall asleep and this is all I ever dream

Keep all our daddies and mamas safe Dear Lord, So We All Could Dance with Our Parents again:

Lord Bless This Dear Family and all the "Men and Woman in Blue" who Knew Him: And worked with Him: Comfort their Hearts:

Let their Hearts Not Be Trouble:
We will see each other again,
Then the real party will begin:

Rest Now Officer Winfield, The Rest is in out hands.
We will watch over your Family:
Thank you for your Hard work, And you will never be forgotten.

It has been my honor to know Brandy. Our city and county are at a loss over this tragedy. As a friend, Brandy would always light up my day with his smile. As a Deputy, Brandy always held my deepist respect and admiration. To his family, you are in our prayers, because this evening Marion's lights are a little dimmer knowing that Brandy is not there protecting us.

May Brandy rest in peace and to all the area law enforcement officers and family members ... Thank You for your dedicated service to our community.
